I wish people would have given prizes (Pulitzers!) to @alexismadrigal, @robinsonmeyer & the other people behind the Covid Tracking Project, coz damn, they too really stepped up when the need for data was desperate.

One of the foundational principles of The COVID Tracking Project is data transparency. We set out to take screenshots of state COVID-19 websites and dashboards to create an archive, show where our data came from, and maintain data history.

And—this is @alexismadrigal and @kissane—we have to thank CTP’s contributors. This project came out of nothing. You became its blood and bones. We know how much you sacrificed—jobs, school, kidtime—and how much it sometimes hurt to handle the numbers that defined this year.

We compared state- and HHS-reported COVID hospitalization counts and are seeing large discrepancies and difficult-to-interpret data. Reliable hospital data is critical for assessing regional COVID impact

Addendum: What happens when critical public health data is shared openly? The public pitches in and helps. Wonderful analysis by @COVID19Tracking @NotoriousRSG @betsyladyzhets @JuliaKodysh on the deltas that need to be addressed between states & HHS. https://t.co/OswoCFCSLh

Not sure we've communicated well enough that social distancing interventions will pay dividends in 1-3 weeks. Anything that happens in the next 10 days was already baked in prior to that. A surge in cases now would NOT mean that social distancing isn't working.

This is important. Half of positive cases had no symptoms. It will be very important to follow up and find out if this cohort (a) ever developed symptoms and (b) developed humoral/cellular immunity
