Honestly I don't know what Labour's route out of this by-election aftermath is. Labour insiders are already putting the blame on Shabana Mahmood's immigration policies, but the problem is that if their response is to then tack leftward and soften the immigration rhetoric, then

There is no need for a "tactical vote" in Gorton & Denton. Voting Green just splits the Labour vote & allows Reform to win. Gorton & Denton is a Labour seat, with a 13,500 majority in 2024, & has a better Labour candidate this time. Labour has delivered 63 of 92 Election pledges.

Posting videos of volunteers of *any party* without their consent is a pretty shitty thing to do. It’s an unwritten rule in politics, perhaps news to people who are new to the game, but you never attack the volunteers. They’re the bedrock of our democracy.

The idea of an interim PM is a constitutional nonsense… almost. The precedent comes from 1834 when Robert Peel was appointed but was in Italy at the time. It took him three weeks to get back, so the post was held in the interim by the Duke of Wellington.

But the worst possible response would be to play party politics or factional games. Labour is only getting started on changing things for the better - our Employment Rights Act, renters’ rights, leasehold reform, free school meals and lifting kids out of poverty.  2/3
