We absolutely have a problem around shoplifting and phone-theft, but calling them "effectively decriminalised" is just not a thing that is true.

Data counts for more than “lived experience”, sorry. Shoplifting and snatch theft are up. That’s a big problem for public confidence because everyone SEES it. What they don’t SEE is police are dealing with high-harm domestic and sexual offences every day, unlike 30 years ago.

“Crime has been legalised”. Just fundamentally unserious, much like most commentary on policing and crime. Look at the latest data released this week - includes homicide falling to a historic low, but shoplifting well up. This hyperbolic nonsense does no one any good.
