Perfect example of why "hack-a" strategies don't really pay off - offensive rebounding off of those FT misses runs at ~20-25%.

It wouldn't be the first major of the LPGA season without insane backstopping on the 18th hole where the water on a par 5 is rendered irrelevant by grandstands.

For @MichaelVPina's new feature on the brilliance of Nikola Jokic, I found every potential assist he made this season where his pass flew 40+ degrees away from his line of sight and then organized them into groups to help understand what passing angles he sees that others don't.
Nikola Jokic is the smartest basketball player I’ve ever seen, so I spent most of this season working on a story that tries to explain every reason why:

The world should not work this way, but I haven't found a better example of what @patio11 "speaking the magic words" than being stuck in endless Xfinity phone tree hell and getting out of it thanks to this random Reddit comment. Sharing it for others who may be in the same spot

Fitting that Rory McIlroy, the most openly human and fallible of the sports superstars, has to overcome his own fallibility 3 times to win. Golf makes you hit the shots you don’t want to hit to win. Rory won The Masters from exact same yardage on 18 after his miss in regulation.

I maintain that the 1 and 1 is the most heartbreaking rule in team sports.

Lots of crazy things happening in Texas Tech - Florida, but can we take a second to appreciate the in-bounds play McCasland/Linder drew up to get Williams isolated on Haugh in the middle of the floor. Beautiful design.

Robbie Hummel is really calling out the refs in this CSU-Maryland game. A lot of missed calls.

I watched the UCSD-Michigan game in the stands w/ Bryce Pope. Pope built UCSD. Their best player for 4 years. Then he took NIL money to transfer to USC, & rode the bench. He flew to Denver, because he wanted to feel part of it. "Is the grass greener?" https://t.co/F85jbrmftM

The model also likes Texas over Illinois if they beat Xavier. As a reminder, the model is designed to minimize false positives, so it will predict far fewer upsets than what actually happen. The key variables are extra possessions (TOs, offensive rebounds) and SOS

It's the day before the best two days of the sports calendar, and @andrewlbeaton and the @WSJ have been kind enough to publish my NCAA Tournament upset prediction model again. This year, the model projects two upsets: UCSD over Michigan (-2.5) VCU over BYU (-2.5)

Harmoni Turner with the Harvard school record 44 points (out of 70) to beat Princeton and likely seal the first NCAA Tournament berth in 18 years!

Update: Boston had 24 homicides in 2024, the lowest amount since statistics started being kept. https://t.co/3ICN0XPh3j
Because good news, especially on crime, often goes unremarked on, I wanted to highlight that Boston has seen an almost unbelievable drop in murders so far in 2024. 2022: 41 murders 2023: 37 1H24: 4

That Penn State fumble was karma because they definitely didn’t recover the Jeanty fumble in bounds.

The home site CFP game atmosphere seems awesome. Let’s hope the games match up.
