Privileged to write this preview with @brainevodevo - congrats to @CcileCharrier, @blibep, @VanderhaeghenP2, @fpolleux, and lab members for the beautiful work!.
@JenelleLWallace led a preview of two outstanding papers from @CcileCharrier , @blibep , @VanderhaeghenP2 , @fpolleux et al that connect regulation of the tempo of synaptogenesis by the human-specific gene SRGAP2C to ASD-linked genes: .

Huge thanks to everyone in @Lab_Pollen who contributed ideas and discussion and especially to @brainevodevo, the best coauthor anyone could ask for, and a huge support in putting this together during an incredibly difficult time in my personal life.

I'm thrilled to announce that the review I wrote with @brainevodevo is now online @NatRevNeurosci: We cover mechanisms of prolonged human neuronal maturation, integrating lessons from model organisms with studies on species differences.

Important thread about #LongCovid .While we may now have the tools to prevent many (though not all!) covid deaths and hospitalizations, it is less clear that we understand anything about how to prevent or treat long-term symptoms, which are not as uncommon in vaxed as we hoped.
Covid (@UCSF) Chronicles, Day 848.It’s been a few weeks since my last update – the flow of Covid news & research has slowed a bit. But there’s still plenty of questions that come up, so in this🧵I’ll answer a few that I get asked commonly, including how my wife is doing. (1/25).

Saw some of this work presented at SFN awhile ago, super excited to read the whole story! Congrats @Nathan_the_Gray!.
Happy to announce the release of my work in the Komiyama lab, in which we try to understand more about the function of new synapses that form during learning. We all have an intuition about how new synapses change our brain and behavior (1/n).

Thankful to all the public figures here who have opened up about their long covid struggles, it makes the rest of us feel a little less alone.
There's a common myth being passed around that longCOVID is rare, that it only affects medically infirm people, that it can't happen to me. Here's a short thread on the famous people that are dealing with #longCOVID 1/

Cool study using a combo of lineage tracing and Patch-seq to learn about those fancy-looking human astrocytes!.
Pleased to share the latest study by @InBay01 @crcadwell @sohallab @mattgkeefe @DavidSh90791209 and Kevin Donohue revealing complex developmental origins of human astrocytes

Seems to be anecdotally true among friends and colleagues, wonder about time from booster vs virus itself.
"Contrary to the perception that recent variants have become successively milder, Omicron BA.2 was associated with reporting more symptoms, with greater disruption to daily activities [than BA.1]" .BA.2 vs BA.1 Figure 👇.
