Family Man. Former
@CPC_HQ
EDA Vice President, current retail worker. National Conservative with just a few liberal inclinations.
Proud British North American
"It was just a flag." (The Red Ensign)
"It was just the titles of the branches of the Military." (CAF amalgamation)
"It was just the name of a holiday." (Dominion Day)
"It was just a few words that were changed." (our national anthem)
"Its just a symbol." (the Canadian Crown)
Michael Chong is a good man, a good Parliamentarian, and a good Canadian.
His family overseas have been targeted by the CCP in an effort to silence him and his criticism of an enemy government.
And what are Liberals and their partisans most concerned about?
Fucking optics
@Harry__Faulkner
No, it's civic nationalism. Post nationalism would be him playing dress up and promoting other identities over the Canadian identity which is the exact opposite of what he's doing here.
Calm down, Harrison
@JJ_McCullough
No J.J. that's ahistorical nonsense. The GG is the King's representative in Canada and the Commander in Chief, she doesn't represent "civilian control of the Military", that's the responsibility of our duly elected government.
@PaulChampLaw
@_MarkSutcliffe
Remember how in 2022 you used to argue that freedom of expression and assembly didn't equate to the freedom to disrupt and violate bylaws?
I do.
Stop being an insufferable hypocrite
These two things can be true at once:
1: David Johnston is a great Canadian and his record of service to crown and country cannot be understated
2: Johnston's connections to the Trudeau family, Foundation, and CCP leadership could cloud his objectivity in his new role.
@MelissaLantsman
The laws we have on the books are not enough.
They're not preventing these hate rallies from forming, they're not preventing people from displaying flags of terror groups, or from singing genocidal chants. They are not preventing the nightmare the Jewish community is enduring
Call me any name you want, but I genuinely don't think parliament is a "casual" place and don't like this trend of politicians dressing down.
You're representing your constituents, not a group of finance bros. Dress accordingly
Good fucking job everyone, way to hand the Russians one of their biggest propaganda victories of the war...
Give yourselves a pat on the back you fucking rubes
🇨🇦Canadian Parliament gives standing ovation to the Nazi SS butcher. Yet another Trudeau's regime insult to the memory of Canada’s sons and daughters who fought Nazism in WWII.
For the idiots in the back:
When a Conservative is referring to the "globalist elites" in most capacities, it means "rich and powerful neoliberals", it's not a fucking anti-Semitic dogwhistle in that context.
It isn't hard to grasp!
The people protesting Zelensky's visit at the Royal York are a bunch of losers. Supporting Ukraine is morally correct and strategically sound, but they can't see that thanks to the Russia dis/misinformation peddled by their favorite influencers online.
They can stuff it
If you want to know why I'll never vote NDP, here's a prime example. These people have no business being in places of power. Literally celebrating a person/group that drove a man to suicide
You all need to ask yourselves "is this the kind of society I want my kids and grandkids to inherit?"
For me, the answer is a resounding "no".
I don't want to share a society with people like this, I don't want to live in a society that emboldens people to act like this.
@Anthony__Koch
Not just of the police, but also of the law in general and of incarceration, too.
If police don't act against these flagrant violations of the law and such disrespect for civil society, it will breed an environment where vigilantism thrives.
Remember that time Parliament was attacked by a terrorist who killed 2 Canadian warriors before trying to kill PM Harper who was forced to hide in a closet by his security detail?
Go fuck yourself, you pissant
@RosieBarton
This is fair. People are concerned, and it needs to be addressed in a non-partisan way.
The Liberals can't be trusted alone to appoint someone without any connection to their party. They've proven that time and again
@KristinRaworth
Kristin, I have a genuine question:
Why do families working traditional schedules, making up to $150k a year, deserve more government support when families who don't work traditional jobs are totally and completely left behind?
The Monarchy is the strongest tangible link we have to some of the foundational principles of our modern democratic society. That link, even if abstract to some, is infinitely more important to the future sanctity of our democracy than any president or whatever could provide
Honestly?
We don't deserve Michael Chong.
He's been one of the most consistently honourable Members of Parliament in recent history. Hell, that he's being as reserved about this as he has is a testament to his integrity
The people saying he's lying don't have integrity.
For whatever it's worth:
Come 2025, I have no intention of being a graceful victor.
No "thank you for serving Canadians and for your sacrifices", no "we disagreed but you did your best".
The only thing I plan on saying to liberals after they lose is "piss off"
@KristinRaworth
I can say that it's more than awful, but I can also rightly hold Hamas, it's affiliates and it's supporters responsible for it, and Egypt for not doing enough to support humanitarian assistance
@jtgoodchild
@Gray_Mackenzie
@Justin_Ling
CSIS is leaking to the public because the government is compromised, and they know how serious these threats are to the integrity of our institutions
I've been willing to defend some of Her Excellency's comments, especially in regards to building a better relationship between the Crown and indigenous peoples.
But if she wants to promote republicanism, she can resign as viceroy and do so as a private citizen.
Canadian monarchists have sent a strongly worded letter to Gov. Gen. Mary Simon chastising her for suggesting recently that there may need to be "conversations" about a future without the royals.
Liberals have literally treated citizens who have been convicted of (and admitted to engaging in) terrorism overseas better than they are treating a Canadian citizen whose only "crime" is becoming one of the richest people on earth in the US instead of here...
Canadians are uninterested in pretty much everything that makes Canada the unique country it is. The only thing people claim to care about is "not being America" and we do a shit job at that too
The people who have a problem with Harper meeting Orban are the same people who, back in 2015, demanded Canada re-establish diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and reopen our embassy in Tehran.
Stop listening to these people
@gmbutts
Fair point, Gerry. After all, she was a *known* German neo-fascist. Gotta take responsibility for that.
Now, where is the accountability from the Prime Minister for signing a potentially *known* CCP assets nomination papers?
@RachelBendayan
@cathayw
So to confirm:
You don't believe people who target pregnant women violently deserve to have that fact recognized as the aggravating factor during sentencing?
Really?
The institution of the Canadian Crown is the bedrock upon which Canada's parliamentary democracy rests. Today we celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, King of Canada, and wish him a long and happy reign. May God save the King.
We need a royal visit.
2 weeks long, stops across all the provinces and territories.
Canadians knew him as the Prince of Wales, it's time they meet him face to face as our King
There is such a thing as a Model Canadian, and his name is King Charles III.
Before him, it was Queen Elizabeth II
Before her, King George VI.
Simple as
@darrellbricker
@globalnews
This is why you don't gradually degrade and replace a naturally developed cultural/national identity with a liberal cosmopolitan pet project over a number of decades
Two things, if true:
#1
: I hope he and his family are able to eventually overcome their differences for their kids sake
#2
: Anybody who uses this to try and score political points is a fucking dick
@mattgurney
I have very low expectations for the Liberals, but this caught me off gaurd
The utter contempt she's displaying publicly to the very idea of looking into this further is insulting
The CBC suspended
@Anthony__Koch
for being a Jewish person who wouldn't roll over and take the minimization of the literal pogrom committed against Jews in Israel, let's be clear about that.
They should have been defunded years ago
How in God's name are we supposed to build healthy, vibrant, strong communities if we don't have things to celebrate together like Canada Day or Victoria Day? If we don't have anything to (in large part) unite us as Canadians, in spite of our strong differences?
Could you all IMAGINE the reaction to people holding a sign that says "mosques complicit in Islamist terrorism" in front of a mosque?
There would be riots and you fucking know it
“Synagogues complicit in Palestinian ethnic cleansing” sign in front of a synagogue in Thornhill, Canada
There is a straight line from here to justifying attacks on this synagogue now
📸: Mila Gurfinkel
You wouldn't know it now, but at one point in history we were a major military power, able to punch well above our weight, with less than half of our current population...
The commander of the Canadian Armed Forces is calling on the country to rally behind its military as it faces an unprecedented personnel crisis that he says is threatening its ability to protect and defend Canada.
This point 1000%.
Global and the Globe are risking a whole hell of a lot to tell us this story. They wouldn't run it unless they were sure. This ain't the US, it's not "fake news"
This is a very real, very clear and present threat to our democracy
Please understand how hard it is to get a story with very serious allegations published in a major Canadian news outlet.
Lawyers review & exhaustively question everything to prevent lawsuits.
Explosive stories are never published lightly.
@acoyne
The AfD is not a neo-Nazi organization Andrew enough hyperbole.
Right wing populists?
Yes
Xenophobic?
Sure.
But that's not Nazism or any derivative of it.
This shouldn't need to be said
@FlavioVolpe1
Pierre, as a member of the King's Privy Council, has had his background checked and has suitable clearance
Focus on your electric car, not on promoting debunked misinformation
Growing up, I was raised to believe in an idea of Canada that so many have decided over the last 7 years is wrong, immoral, and not worth celebrating.
It's impossible to articulate just how disheartening that is, to see so many shun a history they should be proud of.
@leilanifarha
@IrwinCotler
@MarciSurkes
Hamas is the one putting them in harm's way by setting up in their homes, schools, mosques, and stores.
Shame on them, and shame on you
@Taleeb
Lol again, nice try.
Have you ever bought a lottery ticket online? Because I have, and needed ID to be verified before I could play. Is that a "digital ID"? No, it was just me taking a picture of my physical ID and sending it to them.
@DonMartinCTV
What?
This is official multiculturalism realized in practice. This is what we let ideological liberals/progressives turn us into after sacrificing almost every aspect of our unique, unifying identity.
This *is* Canada
Libs yesterday: "Conservatives want to bully cities, we want to work with them!"
Libs today: "okay the Tories were right we're gonna have to bully the cities"
NEW: Federal housing minister Sean Fraser has written Mayor Jyoti Gondek. He says he will not approve Calgary's application for Housing Accelerator Fund money unless the city moves forward with commitments in the housing strategy.
That a bunch of folks in official Ottawa knew that MP Chong's family was being targeted by the Chinese, decided not to tell him & no apparent consequences is appalling on personal, political & diplomatic level. But not surprising based on my experience. Be serious.
@DavidLametti
How does a bill that would only require a person violently targeting a pregnant woman because they are pregnant to have that fact considered an aggravating factor during a sentencing period make women less safe?
Do you really care that little about people's safety?
I honestly cannot imagine what the Prince of Wales must be going through emotionally.
Lost his grandfather, grandmother, finding out his dad has cancer, now his wife too, publicly assuming some of their royal duties while keeping a brave face...
What a man
Both sides need to grow the hell up.
Not flying a flag and keeping sexuality out of schools isn't "hateful", it's realistic, and wanting students who happen to be sexual/gender minorities to be accepted/included in school and not get bullied/belittled isn't "woke", it's good.
If you can't understand why people have an issue with things that represent them being unilaterally changed by a government that clearly doesn't care about appropriately representing Canada, idk what to tell you
I can promise you, the PCs losing in Manitoba has nothing to do with parental rights.
It has everything to do with them devaluing human life by refusing to search the landfill and then actively campaign on that position
We need tanks, we need jets, we need ships, we need subs, we need drones, we need guns and ammunition, we need a generally larger and more capable/coheasive regular and reserve force and we need all of that yesterday
This is pure bigotry against a religious block that has contributed much not just to the Canadian way of life but to western civilization as a whole, including the evolution of individual liberty.
Shame on you, Andrew
The far-right Evangelical Christian movement is a scourge on our politics. They’re a dangerous lot.
Yet these are the sort of groups Poilievre seeks out. He met with these folks three times last weekend while not attending a single Pride event.
#cdnpoli
@EmmMacfarlane
You really can't understand that this isn't just about the passport, but rather the wider contempt displayed by the Liberals towards Canadian heritage and symbols while simultaneously engaging in self-flagellation willy nilly?
Really?!
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but it's the truth and these activists needs to hear it:
Colonization is not being reversed. Canada is not going anywhere, and the heritage of a sizable chunk of our citizens is not being cancelled.
Accept it or don't, it doesn't change that fact
The status of Winnipeg's QEII statue, seen below, can serve as a lesson re: the continual insistence on uncritically celebrating Canada's colonial status quo. Why not create a different kind of public commemoration, one that serves present needs rather than bootlicking nostalgia?
Everyone who called or implied that
@MichaelChongMP
was a liar owes him and his family an apology and those who spread misinformation need to take some accountability for their actions
People keep saying "the next campaign is gonna be ugly" and to a degree sure, but if you think Canadians won't respond to incredible messaging like this you're a fool.
This is the kind of messaging that creates super majorities
I can't imagine what the two Michaels are thinking now, hearing an MP from their country's governing party is accused of having advocated for their continued unjust detention
Canada really needs to have a national discussion about our shared national identity (or lack thereof) and I'm very happy to see plenty of conservative voices leading the charge on it.
That said, engaging with almost any non conservative about it in good faith is... Taxing
@andrewaperez
If you think those people are a "scourge" or a "dangerous lot" when they've contributed much to the evolution of western society both morally and politically, that speaks to how radical your beliefs potentially are
That
@WabKinew
is so popular across the political spectrum not just in Manitoba but everywhere is proof that Canadians crave a more pragmatic, communitarian civic nationalism. Imagine how much better our politics would be if both the left and right embraced that more fully
@JJ_McCullough
That civilian control rests with Parliament, not the GG, and we've had many GGs who served in the CAF before.
She's also the Colonel of 3 military regiments, which is a legitimate rank in the CAF. Not a "civilian" position.
@Anthony__Koch
"Peace for our time"
If human history is anything to go off of, superior military power and a willingness to use it when necessary are the only guarantors of anything resembling peace.
Hugh Segal was a Tory's Tory, and his books were some of the first I ever read when my interest in politics really started to peak. His work on basic incomes left a lasting impression on me, suffice it to say...
Very sad news tonight. Rest in peace to a happy warrior
Cdn politics has lost its happiest warrior tonight. Hugh Segal's lifelong call for decency in our politics is at once a look back at what was, and a hope for what can be.
I am heartbroken that I didn't get to say goodbye, but your ideals live on.
Merci, and so much love.
#cdnpoli
Here's another unpopular opinion for everyone:
Jagmeet may be a champaign socialist who's out of touch with the average Canadian but at least he dresses like a parliamentarian should dress. Attacking him for putting effort into his appearance as a public representative is dumb
J.J. the other day: "why do people hate me all I wanna do is teach people about Canada 😭"
J.J. Today: "Let me get basic Canadian history wrong by implying we need to do something that already happened 90 years ago"
What in the actual fuck kind of proposal is this?!
Should I pull out a handy brochure to give to the person that's got a knife to my neck if I'm ever in such a situation?!?
Can these unserious people crawl back into their holes of irrelevance?
When asked about the increasing violence in Toronto, Mayoral candidate Mitzie Hunter calls for an advertising campaign and marketing program. Candidate Josh Matlow says it's a health issue and the city needs to make sure the perpetrators are well.
