We need to draw a distinction between: mitochondrial dysfunction (i.e., the mitochondria being less able to produce ATP, which declines a little with aging) and mitochondrial activation (i.e., the signals that tell the mitochondria to turn on [eg: AMPK], which declines a lot)

As a postdoc the (Great) Ben Barres, MD, PhD (alas now deceased from cancer) used to stop me at least once a week & say/shout “why do we have less energy as we age?! It’s NOT mitochondria! Someone has to figure this out! Why is no one working on this?!” What do you think?

Come see the presentation on Sunday if you're around. It's fun to be able to show off some of the data that we've been keeping in the hopper for such a long time waiting for the right time to go live with it =) More info here ⬇️ https://t.co/iREXj6gzue

@DKThomp & @ezraklein was prompted by reading your book to put some thoughts down on how the Abundance Framework could make drugs for aging that you mention a few times come about faster and with higher probability https://t.co/q9toIaqa6Z

Congratulations @kpfortney and team @bioagelabs! Kristen & her team have successfully navigated a tough time in biotech. We're really looking forward to the readout of the azelaprag + GLP trials. Healthy treatment of obesity is the lowest hanging fruit of preventative medicine

A large number of people with high BMI are metabolically healthy, so it's certainly not a perfect biomarker, but it's also easy to measure and pretty good in most cases.

Nuance is hard, and I appreciate @nytimes for trying to thread the needle. Obesity is a risk factor for multiple diseases. It is a biomarker. Obesity plus other morbidities is a disease. https://t.co/qC1g2Gbi1U

A provocative and clever question. The door that opens once we have the first Phase 3 clinical data with a drug showing multi-disease prevention by an average of 36 months would be massive. Would create a race for innovation in the field.

What do you think would be a more impactful result for the field of aging biology? 1.) A clinical trial that shows that a geroprotector works and delays disease onset by 3 years. 2.) A preclinical study that shows that maximum mouse lifespan has been doubled?

@levie @elonmusk Part of the misunderstanding of drug pricing is the impact of pharmacy benefit managers. Prior to @costplusdrugs publishing our price list, there was not a benchmark to compare prices. They made sure that every contract was opaque and under an NDA For instance, Box, Tesla,
