US public transit ridership is back to 85% of pre-covid nationally. But it is back differently. The new riders are not the old riders. We now move people more all-day, all-direction, while moving fewer briefcases to towers downtown at rush hour. 1/🧵

The replies to this are exactly what I expected: why don't you drive to the donut store, and drive to a park if you want to cycle. You should drive. Everywhere. Want to cycle? Drive to somewhere you can cycle. Want to walk? Drive to somewhere you can walk.
Shipley's donuts is 0.3 mi from our house. My daughters INSISTED on biking on Sun morning. I regretted giving in to their demand. Thanks to @HoustonTX making sidewalks abutting property owner responsibility and @CenterPoint not caring this is the experience. 1/2

Walk, Bike & Roll to School Days went very well at CAL Community School in Latimer, Iowa! One student said, "Let's do this everyday!" They had over 30 students show up to the event and were met by their principal on the walk along with some moms, a grandma, and dad!

Just a reminder that if the @RoyalArmdCorps in a slow moving tracked armoured vehicle can pass a cyclist safely so can you in your car, van, bus, truck and even those pretend off road thingies.

Everyone in Ottumwa Community School District had a dog-gone good time on Walk, Bike & Roll to School Days! Ottumwa was the first to sign up as a whole school district and continues to lead the state in Walk, Bike, Roll Day participation. Go Bulldogs!

Poyner Elementary had 75 students participate in Walk, Bike & Roll to School Days last week. "This was so much fun," said 2nd grader Tate Sanchez. And Benny and Dexston said, "We always like to ride bikes to school with our Grandma, Mayor Smock!".

Intersections can be dangerous for bicyclists. ⚠️ Drivers 🚗 Always watch for bicyclists and check your blind spots. Bicyclists 🚴 Wear clothing that makes you visible and follow the rules of the road.

@miriam_riviera @Boenau it isn't practical AT ALL, only tourists and messenger use them. AND it isn't safe either. e bikes blowing lights, riding on sidewalks, criss crossing lanes. don't even use the bike lanes half the time.

This is why we need daylighting. From the curb, I couldn’t see this Jersey driver who didn’t bother stopping at the stop sign because there is an SUV parked right at the corner of the intersection, blocking the crosswalk, no less. This is indefensible.
