Cryo-EM is a bit of an imaging miracle. We collect 2D images with stupid amounts of noise. We don’t know what we’re looking at, or from which way. Yet some how we can churn it over and get to see (actually see) how life works on molecular scales in 3D. How?

We have a new paper for you: “Structure of tetrameric forms of the serotonin-gated 5-HT3A receptor ion channel”. Here we found that the prototypical pentameric ligand gated ion channel can form stable tetramers and characterized it with cryo-EM/ET and molecular simulations.
