And since the company wasn’t so savvy on backups and such, Jeff’s computer had been the only one with locally stored copies of all the crucial reports our office relied on. Hence my manager’s completely underplayed ‘we can’t do that report anymore’. (5/6).

That’s right, folks. Jeff found out he no longer had a job in the room with the rest of us, reading his name on a slide of redundant people. Being a calm guy, he didn’t react, however. He simply walked back to his computer, sat down, wiped his hard drive, and left. (4/6).

So back to the report. The business was letting 10 people go in our 100 person office. HR delivered the news individually to each affected person, then brought us together and showed a slide with all the names of the fired people on it. They’d told them all. Except Jeff. (3/6).

So there were a few redundancy rounds at the business I was at. One was meant to be a surprise but then HR booked out literally every meeting room in the building all day on a certain day so that tipped people off. I digress but that level of competence sets the scene well (2/6).
