Really interesting piece on how silent classrooms further disadvantage the disadvantaged. I'm bothered about silent corridors too.. no wonder we have high absence rates. Kids go to school to talk to their mates. Didn't you?

Wonderful thread of books to promote inclusion, empathy and belonging 🥰
I'm gonna put together a cheap pack via @ANewChapterBks of 39 books for whole school assemblies. I've got lots of ideas but want to make sure I cover a range of values, diverse representation, showcase beautiful illustrations & span genres. So, what is your best assembly book?

Striking statistics for us to consider in education but it doesn’t all have to be doom and gloom. We see school staff making a difference to these children’s lives on a daily basis. Every interaction counts!
Stark stats: 29% of kids are growing up in poverty 48% of kids in Black & minority ethnic families are in poverty 42% of kids in households with 3+ kids are in poverty 44% of kids in lone-parent families are in poverty 71% of kids growing up in poverty live in a working family
