At prep school one day volunteering at the local food bank for the occasional school wide volunteer day while struggling at home with mom but with my “rich” dad on weekends whiplash from navigating diff income/class levels was real, but also taught me a lot

(Experience: growing up living all over diff income levels after their divorce, sometimes in the same week)

I’m not saying don’t give to food banks or orgs, just that they aren’t a panacea for inequality Between yt savior mindsets, food donations people wouldn’t eat themselves, occasional embezzlement, etc some of these orgs suck; not to also the mention red tape to accessing aid

If you try to only give to organizations bc you want the money to “be used how it should” or avoid ppl “wasting” money on things you deem unnecessary, you’re being paternalistic (and controlling) & gotta unlearn some things to disentangle yourself from that judgmental mindset
