5 years ago today a hero went to work and didn’t come home. Today we remember a man that epitomised the qualities we aspire to as human beings and police officers. Rest in peace Tony, always in our thoughts.
We remember Tony Golden murdered serving his community 4 years ago today. The loss will never heal and we will always remember a true gent who was an exemplary colleague and friend.
Today we take a moment to remember the gentle giant, the lives he touched and the massive loss to his family, colleagues and community. We will never forget that dark dark day.
10 yrs ago today we lost a real hero, Robbie was a fantastic policeman, a loyal colleague and a great friend. Things have never quite been the same since he left us and we will never forget his warm smile or the pleasure of his company and comradery.
On this day in 2013 our colleague Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was murdered while serving the community he was part of and cherished by. Sadly missed and fondly remembered, forever in our thoughts.
Today is another heartbreaking day for the Garda family. If you are struggling please avail of supports that are there to help both inside and outside the organisation. No one is alone and no problem cannot be overcome.
#ItsOkayToNotBeOkay
The dignity and courage shown by Adrian’s loved ones has been truly humbling, the dedication of the investigation team in Louth is simply phenomenal. In our darkest days we really are surrounded by exemplary people in the Garda and worldwide Police family.
#ripadrian
To get to this point is a credit to the dedication and professionalism of those involved in the investigation. The entire Garda family express our appreciation for your relentless pursuit of justice for our fallen brother Adrian.
Heartbreaking news so soon after the death of Gda John Mc Callion in Swinford. Our deepest sympathies to their loved ones, friends and colleagues as a dark cloud hangs over the entire

As we prepare to embark on the most important operation ever undertaken,we stand ready to protect and serve the nation, communities, families and frontline services we are part of. Commitment to the challenge ahead is palpable in every station and unit nationwide 👮🏻🇮🇪👮🏻♀️
As a nation reels from the shock and trauma of the past few days we pay tribute to our colleagues working the cases who must park their emotions and let their dedication and professionalism allow the victims' families to at least know what happened if not why.
#JobLikeNoOther
A big shout out to all the media outlets that have been keeping Garda members informed of all the imminent proposed changes to AGS over the last few days. Much appreciated 👏👏👏
The vast majority of Gardaí go out on patrol unarmed and often a considerable distance from any back up in a society where violent criminals are no longer a rarity. Let no one question courage and commitment of our members to this nation and it’s people.

It didn't take long

asking if the 2% "pay rise" in Oct should proceed. This is pay restoration under FEMPI not a pay rise. We are still trying to get back to where we were 10yrs ago. This is not up for discussion. All frontline emergency services deserve no less.
So, the views of 98.7% of frontline Garda members who voted dont count and are "a bit silly." Well, if the Commissioner has lost the dressing room, then the Taoiseach certainly can't read the room. Disappointing but not surprising comments.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the Garda Representative Association (GRA) does not “have a right” to a meeting with the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and called the dispute "all a bit silly".
Every single contributor here missing the point. Gardaí are retiring early and resigning in their droves because their working conditions have been ripped to shreds. Frontline members' concerns are being completely ignored. The latest roster announcement confirms this.

So where did it all go wrong...the 5 yr recruitment embargo? The dismantling of pension entitlements? The training regime, or lack thereof? The box ticking culture? And Covid regularly rolled out as an excuse re lack of recruitment. The buck stops..where?
What an informative report, who would possibly have thought that people whose parties and social activities have been curtailed by Gardaí haven’t got as many nice things to say about them as those who had their shopping and prescriptions delivered.
To all our overstretched heroes on the frontline tonight, stay safe. Certainly the thin blue line is now stretched to breaking point. The 36 pages of latest complex covid legislation dumped on the Garda portal on Christmas eve by Management was such a nice touch also.
Fair play to those former Gardaí for caring enough to speak out. It's so wrong, though, that they couldn't do so while still serving. No doubt there are many more agonising as to whether to jump ship. The whole organisation needs a radical overhaul.
As we prepare to step forward to serve our nation, we take a moment to reflect on the comradery, commitment to service and can do attitude that will get us through what lies ahead. We are proud to play our part 👮🏻🇮🇪👮🏻♀️.
“The Garda entered the river at full flood and held onto the person for fifteen minutes until assistance arrived from Gardaí in Mountmellick. This person was then pulled out from the river against the strong current,"
Visibility may well be the casualty of modernisation as everyone sits at a a desk on hold to GISC or updating their PAF, IMS and PALF screens ensuring every CAD incidents is duplicated with a corresponding PULSE incident....
In the early hours of this morning Wednesday 14 August 2019 Gardai attached to Cavan/ Monaghan Garda Division supported by National Units intervened in an attempted ATM robbery in Virginia, Co. Cavan. 2 males are currently arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
After years of substandard, dangerous and unhealthy working conditions our colleagues in Sligo station have been left with no other option than to leave their station as management have refused to honour a negotiated agreement please retweet to show support
A very happy Christmas to every one of our 1,300 followers. What a year it's been and we are still here despite some who would wish we weren't. A voluntary account that costs nothing. Wonder how much all the legal consultations cost tho discussing injunctions to shut us down?.
With all the fuss surrounding the new guy, we almost forgot to say goodbye to the old boss. A quiet and unassuming man who got on with the job without drama. Slán agus beannacht.
Hearing rumours that certain individual(s) have been tasked with shutting us down. Didn't realise we were so relevant and effective but there u go. Must be doing something right. Just hope Article 40.6.1 of our constitution is not violated in any way. Interesting times ahead.
The man was on the ground with his staff who do a thankless dangerous job. Policing isn’t always photogenic or pleasant but it’s very real to the people that do the heavy lifting and put themselves in harms way. Maybe honesty is better than a sugar coated PR friendly narrative.
25 new qualified Gardaí passing out from Templemore today bringing the total number of members to 14,157. Numbers plummeting and will soon be under 14,000. Going in the wrong direction and nothing being done to halt the decline. Who is going to grasp the nettle?
We highly commend the heroic actions of our 2 female colleagues in Mohill, putting a stop to this region of terror on isolated communities at 5am and the life threatening situations they were faced with.
The only conclusion to draw from watching
@RTE_PrimeTime
and
@TonightVMTV
tonight is that policing is in crisis in this country. It's hard to believe that it has come to this. Where is the inspirational leadership to rally the troops? Sadly, not forthcoming.
15,000 sworn Gardai in 2021 we were promised. Here we are halfway through 2023, and we are in or around 13,900. There are no excuses anymore. Recruitment and retention of members are at a critical point. Will those who may have the answers be asked for their opinion? Doubtful.
Amid concerns about anti-social behaviour and targeted assaults, people in Dublin city centre have said they are afraid to walk alone in the O'Connell Street area in case they're attacked and beaten up
New figures released by Dept of Justice confirm that 4,200 Gardai were assaulted while on duty over the past 5 yrs. Also a 57% increase in assaults in 2020 compared to 2016. These really are astonishing stats and mandatory prison sentences are now a must be for such offences.
HEARTWARMING CLIP OF GARDA RUN TODAY: Garda John Joe O’Connell, Naas Roads Policing, ran 5k this morning around Naas in full uniform for the “Do it for Dan” Fundraiser. Please listen to his (somewhat breathless) message as he finishes his run. Legend.

Today we will stand in silence at Garda Stations around the country to remember our fallen brother. The Garda family cannot come together to mourn but we are united in our grief and sadness.

Wishing all our followers a very Happy Christmas. Spare a thought for our frontline members working throughout. It's certainly busier public order wise over the last few weeks. Restrictions wearing thin for some. Hopefully the covid hospitalisation downward trajectory continues.
Sickening attack on the home and family of a courageous colleague. The Garda family will always stand together in the face of such intimidation
#protecttheprotectors
Brilliant. When 6th November arrives, all our ills are cured. The stars will align, and we will have more resources than ever before. Police forces from all over the world will beg to follow our model to "enhance" their frontline policing. Can't wait.
A senior Garda has said new rosters will not decrease community policing or the work of specialist units but will actually “enhance” frontline policing. |

A very happy Christmas to all of our frontline Gardai and emergency response workers who are on duty over the Christmas period. Hope everyone gets a chance to spend some quality time with their families. It's always a tough time to be on duty when most of society are off.
“The murder of a colleague on duty is utterly devastating news. Officers across London are in shock and sick to their stomachs at the nature of his death." Statement from Metropolitan Police Federation following the murder of a colleague overnight
You either have enough Guards and don’t need overtime or not enough Guards and expect the ones you have to work longer hours to maintain services. Not enough Guards and insufficient budgets will always lead to gaps it’s hardly rocket science.
Perhaps it’s time to send appropriately skilled agencies to deal with mental health incidents rather that untrained Gardai. Maybe oversight bodies should deliver robust protocols rather than implied criticisms of members actions in difficult circumstances
At noon today, with heavy hearts

Happy new year to all our followers and to all frontline Gardai who will hold the thin blue line tonight as always. Here's hoping that a few of the pressing issues facing AGS are dealt with speedily in 2023. Rosters, certainly the number 1 issue but resources at breaking point.
Those holding the purse strings really should visit the frontline stations and observe a CAD system from the 1970's, a pulse system from the 1990's, ordinary family saloon patrol cars, cramped dilapidated not fit for purpose Gda Stns and that only scratches the surface.

Surely any CEO worth his salt should attempt to foster a good working relationship with his employees? Is it not a basic managerial skill? It should not be unreasonable to measure the performance if the coach has potentially lost the dressing room.
"That's not part of the mechanism or metrics by which my performance is measured."

Gardaí are exposed to the unknown everyday. The difference is they don't have a taser to protect themselves from being stabbed and they have to use ink and paper to try and tell the story of what happened. Policing has evolved but our equipment has not.
Absolutely shocking situation that unfolded while the Garda members were diligently carrying out their duties earlier. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery to our 2 injured colleagues.
“We’ve been out there since last March putting ourselves in danger and we didn’t question it. We were told that our contribution was valued. Now overnight, we are the only emergency service, the only blue light service, that has been left unvaccinated.” Says

"The Garda Siochána have lost two great members who were inspirational colleagues to everyone in the organisation and great friends to many members. The passing of both men is all the more tragic considering they leave behind seven children between them.”
Seems like the the views of the overwhelming majority of the frontline Garda members who put their lives on the line every time they report for duty don't matter to all arms of the state and all other Associations. Sad, but at least they know where they stand.
A majority of rank and file gardai have voted no confidence in the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris. The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee has said Commissioner Harris has her and the Government's full support | Read more:
It's a massive issue also regarding retention in An Garda Siochana. Junior members are now more informed than ever, and when they analyse their career prospects, they are walking away and who could blame them. Time for the government to wake up on this issue.

Garda management can order or “direct” rank and file gardaí to work overtime on the days they plan to withdraw from voluntary overtime in a row over rosters, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has said.
The Taoiseach has said wrong decisions were made at Christmas 2020 at the height of the COVID crisis.
Speaking in New York, Leo Varadkar said the country was slow on mandating mask wearing and schools and construction sites stayed closed for too long.

And that's exactly what sets us apart and highlights our uniqueness. Could never be scripted, and Jayo just loving it. Hilarious listening to the locals who are gobsmacked. Community policing at its finest thousands of miles from home. AGS at its best. 👏
7,650 face to face interviews were conducted for this survey, and yet AGS have not conducted any exit interviews with the demoralised members exiting the force in their droves. Positive PR the priority, but no surprises there. Health and Welfare of its members an afterthought.
People who fall victim to crime in Ireland have become less satisfied with how An Garda Síochána deals with their cases, according to a public attitudes survey conducted for the force
Pity the same level of scrutiny and questioning as to the necessity to incur a 5hr subsistence or an hour of overtime wasn’t applied to the spending of €41m
Not to mention all the members now buying 6 months service back to retire early. Unprecedented and would not have happened a few short years ago. There is something very broken in the organisation when all members can see is the finish line. Sad really 😢
The number of Garda members resigning - as opposed to retiring - broke the 100 barrier last year.⬇️
Two gardaí a week resigning from force with numbers quitting on the rise
All the policing "experts" chipping in with their tuppence worth. Has anyone actually asked the frontline members on the ground, the ones who regained control of the streets? The real experts. It's was old school policing that brought the situation under control.
As the world watched in disbelief one family suffered a loss that will live with them long after the news cycle moves on. Remember Officer Brian Sicknick. 🇺🇸👮🏻🇮🇪

Happy new yr to all our followers. A bright new dawn is on the horizon in more ways than one. 2021 will have its challenges but we will face them head on with renewed vigour. A special thanks to all the 24/7 frontline Gardai who go above and beyond at the coalface.

Our analysis is that placing a breathable transparent membrane over a persons head is acceptable particularly when it stops someone intentionally spreading possibly infectious saliva contaminating our members eyes, mouths and skin endangereding them and their loved ones.
Garda use of spit hoods is up for review on Tuesday. Our analysis is that placing a full hood over a person's head by force can never be acceptable, particularly when there is no evidence they stop the spread of disease.
Once again the thin blue unvaccinated line will be the barrier between those who are covid ambivalent and the vast majority of the regulations compliant public. It makes no sense that frontline Gardai are so far down the vaccination list.
Good preparation by
@gardainfo
- be under no illusion, the organisers of any ‘protests’ care little for the well-being of the Gardaí or those attending. They merely want to spread their toxic conspiracies & far right politics.

Refreshing to hear a Senior Garda in a management position tell it like it is. It's now very clear that recruitment and retention are at a critical point nationwide. What's the plan, or is there one at all to tackle the issue?

. Car stolen in recent burglary from Lancashire. Offender tried to drive wrong way along M61 to escape. Tactical contact used to stop pursuit and protect public. No Injuries.
The point that management are missing is that the 4 unit structure introduced for covid allowed them to fill loads of vacancies in specialist units and also to beef up buckshee units. Why can't they be honest and tell the Commissioner they don't have the numbers for Unit E?
I did a story about the DMR south central task force going a few weeks ago.
From speaking to gardai all over the country, it’s clear that staff for Unit E will largely be taken from:
- local task forces/BRUs
- Community policing, or COMPOL. It seems to have been badly hit all
If the turnout is 80% + as reported, then it's a massive statement. Members are frustrated beyond belief with the denial from Senior Garda Management of the issues they are facing. Interesting few weeks ahead, no doubt.
Drew Harris has already described the vote as something he should not have been subjected to and insists that he will not resign, regardless of the result

Truly devastating news following the death of Thames Valley Police Officer PC Andrew Harper. All our thoughts are with the family, friends and close colleagues of PC Harper. Full statement from Thames Valley Police Federation:
Today marks 25yrs since Detective Garda Jerry Mc Cabe, a father of 5 and adored husband of Ann was murdered serving his country by cowardly criminal thieves who would masquerade as patriots.
Huge boost to morale and great re-assurance to communities. Nobody is beyond the reach of the commitment courage and dedication of the members of AGS. We have never failed to deal with elements who might have thought they were untouchable.
Gardai have arrested a third man and seized a significant amount of cash - believed to half a million euro - as part of an ongoing investigation into ATM robberies in the border region.
