MEDIA STATEMENT
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has strongly condemned the abuse and vitriol faced by an Association member at a COVID-19 Garda checkpoint today in Dublin.
AGSI wholly condemn comments by a sitting Irish MEP about Gardaí and we would ask for them to be retracted. Our public representatives should stand squarely behind our hard-working and committed members. To make a blanket statement like that is unfair and unnecessary.
Congratulations to the new AGSI President
@Brendanb27
Sergeant based at Pearse Street Garda Station in Dublin. Following an election today he takes over from Paul Curran and has a tenure of three years.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors is calling for an external investigation to be carried out into GSOC, describing the decision by GSOC to launch an investigation into itself as “unsatisfactory.”
“The AGSI National Executive is sitting today and this item was moved to top of the agenda, with overwhelming anger from members. Absolutely scandalous a member would hear of charges in a public forum. Unacceptable and unfair.”

As a representative association of 2,500 Sergeants & Inspectors we would expect a listening exercise to involve the Minister meeting us or initiating a phone call discussion, neither of which has happened. So the Minister clearly hasn’t listened to the views of AGSI members.
