I interviewed >1100 people at Google. 95% of candidates ask boring questions at the end of an interview (but it doesn't have to be true for you). If you want to stand out in a crowded market, you have to get interviewers to think. Here's how, in 7 steps ↓ 🧵

@Airbnb @bchesky A former employee told me there's an internal escalation process for cases like this... Cases where the host isn't getting anywhere, and they happen to know an employee and can get them to file an internal bug. Ask yourself how broken that sounds...

@Airbnb @bchesky They told me I needed to get the repairs done first, then file a claim against the guest for the full amount. Only if the guests refused to pay could Airbnb create a case for Host Damage Protection. I was aghast. This wasn't a broken lamp. It's a building that's 50% destroyed.

@Airbnb @bchesky It took nearly 7 weeks for the 3rd party to hire a plumber to "investigate" the toilet. He confirmed it was the clog (baby wipes + clog feces) and valve. The plumber refused to leave my house until I paid him $375. Why? He said he didn't trust he would get paid (by Airbnb).

@Sixela_Akire @AirbnbHelp Yes. Haven't gotten a call or email from them yet, but I did provide all the information they asked me for in the DM.

Most candidates spend all of their time preparing for the questions interviewers will ask them. They only spend a few minutes thinking about what to ask the interviewers. This is a mistake. The real interview arbitrage opportunity lies in the questions YOU ask.

Be memorable by design. Ask in original ways. Keep interviewers on their toes, and they will remember your unique take and how it made them think and feel. ❌ “What do you love about this company?” ✅ “If you weren’t working here, what would you be doing?”

What's the most common mistake you see people making in salary negotiations? I'll start: - Sharing a number with the recruiter. Or a range of numbers. Any numbers (don't share numbers ever!)

@Rahim_mahtab @Airbnb @bchesky I think about the guests all the time, and I wonder if they ever even think of us. They probably have no idea that I'm delivering this kid in temporary housing, and I honestly wouldn't want to make them feel worse than they probably already felt. But I do wonder, too.

@jeremyutley @AirbnbHelp Please spare yourself the pain. Don't do it. If you do become a host, get HOI + Umbrella + STR insurance that covers lost revenue.

@ProductFont Eep. A hard truth: we're all going to be robot mechanics in the future. A reminder: constantly upskill yourself!
