Reform UK's leader is millionaire ex-City broker Nigel Farage. Its deputy leader is multimillionaire businessman Richard Tice. Its head of policy is multimillionaire businessman Zia Yusuf. So why is Plaid Cymru a "bourgeois party", while Reform UK isn't?
Reform UK is now the most important force in British politcs. It lost in Caerphilly thanks to an anti-Farage alliance. The bourgois parties will do anything to stop Reform and its ‘deplorable’ voters. Even when it loses, Reform sets the agenda, says Tim Black

New Towns as a solution to the UK decline is a bit of distraction activity. Would not address the macro & structural economic drivers of high street decline & would leave the existing urban disrepair & dereliction unattended to.
Interesting! Don’t disagree… I’ve been travelling the country - impact of deindustrialising our towns is palpable everywhere Ailing high streets show how flimsy our subsequent reliance on consumption in lieu of community was New towns, done right, could regenerate Britain

This is gobsmacking. The story makes clear that the amount spent on flights & hotels was £23k. They arrived at the £1m figure by including all staff costs - including salaries! But many people will only read the headline. Shady or what?

There is an entire discussion about how Labour is losing support to the left. And not a single left-wing panellist. The BBC is going to keep doing this, whatever the electoral or political facts, and it is beyond satire.
"Keir Starmer is in his early sixties, his mind is still stuck in the '90s." Tim Stanley of the Daily Telegraph argues that the Prime Minister's political strategy is out of date. #Newsnight

Ooh, I obviously need to do some background, sehe sounds very convincing.
@EdwardHarkins Please do a little background reading on that channel. Also, now that the plenum is done, she was obviously way, way off base.

Really poor from the BBC. Look beyond the (deliberately?) misleading headline and it's clear that the majority of this was spent on wages. What do Conservative politicians expect CalMac to do, not pay wages when employees are working outside the UK?

“Threaten large banks.” There was a brief consensus after the financial crisis that the institutions that caused it - those same large banks - needed to be heavily regulated. Bessent doesn’t give a damn about the 10 million who lost their jobs or the 9 million who lost homes.
While she remains mostly focused on singing "Don't Cry for Me Massachusetts” and voting against paying government workers, @SenWarren has somehow also found the recent bandwidth to threaten large banks on their lending policies. She is an American Peronist. And the only thing

A lot of analysts and scholars need to start considering the effects of an indefinite US government shutdown on the global order

Yes, worthwhile on China internal politics. Lei's Real Talk also offers a take on 'massive scale' of purge of generals & 'significant timing' on eve of 4th Plenum. After Xi’s Purge; "Zhang Youxia's counterstrike"?
Always worth listening to @JohnCulver689 on China military-related topics. The purge and the parade. Great stuff.

Intriguing (but incomplete?): USA (not just Trump) following historic pattern of collapse after Spain, British Empire, & USSR: military over-extension; currency debasement; debt spiral; productive capacity collapse; social decay. https://t.co/cXEbWtQvWa via @YouTube

This is what a bot farm looks like. Since they are being targeted and taken down throughout Europe, many of the "influencers" paid by Russia have suddenly noticed a sharp drop in their number of followers.
