Sounds eerily similar to San Francisco.
WATCH: Seattle City Council President destroys the 'harm reduction' narrative: "It feels like it's giving a loaded gun to somebody who's suicidal" “I fail to see, however, the harm that's being reduced by distributing supplies such as pipes and foil, that are used to consume

We keep saying it - policy makers needs to listen to people in recovery, like @Ambassador4Rec. He's calling. for the drug markets to be SHUT DOWN, with "PEACE": Public Enforcement And Community Engagement.
My favorite thing in the world is interviewing fascinating people who don't hold back with the truth. Here's my San Francisco Beat episode, with Richard Beal, director of recovery services Tenderloin Housing Clinic. I've long admired his style and finally got to sit down with

We appreciated the opportunity to talk to Chinese voters about the impact of state & local drug policies on residents across SF, including Chinese seniors living in the Tenderloin
CADC November Meeting was well attended as we welcomed @SFBOS President @RafaelMandelman, and @DrugFreeSidewlk @MissLily @Lanier4SF to discuss what they are working on and to get to know us. Sign up at https://t.co/q35xTaAWYa to join the CADC Holiday Party on 12/11/25!

Rally to stand up for kids will happen rain or shine. Rain site is inside City Hall in the North Light Court.
We are going to make some noise for Supervisor Sherrill's resolution for drug-free sidewalks around kid-oriented spaces. 📣 San Francisco kids shouldn't have to walk by open-air drug use on their way to school or entering a playground. #supportyouthvoices #safestreets

A sobering center run by @SheriffSF is opening in SF next year. A 3rd space, that's not jail, and not the sidewalk, where people are detained if they use drugs in public. It's a step toward shutting down drug tourism in SF 👏 https://t.co/LggRT52egR via @sfchronicle

Mayor Daniel Lurie is hoping a new, coercive approach can help officers tackle open-air drug use in San Francisco while getting more people off the streets and connected to addiction treatment.

You have the political support to shut down the drug markets. Let’s get it done. 🙏
SFPD is intensifying operations to shut down drug activity in San Francisco. Last week, officers ramped up enforcement—more buy-busts, more fugitive operations, and more patrols hitting the streets. Already, they’ve made over 70 arrests, seized drugs and firearms, and sent a

The sound of your young daughter's voice trying to make sense of this man screaming in the middle of a mental health crisis on the street underscores how our public health strategy is failing to protect our kids. @SF_DCYF @SF_DPH

We organized a trick-or-treating-merchant walk yesterday with @tl_merchants. 🎃Teens living in drug-market zones wanted to give younger kids a chance to celebrate Halloween despite the trauma of seeing open-air drug use on a daily basis

If you don't believe public drug use is a TRIGGER for people in recovery, LISTEN to Sandra. She's the real deal. How can people break the cycle of addiction when they have to walk through drug markets every time they walk down the street - unless it's the week of Dreamforce?

It's time for @GavinNewsom to clear the fog for San Francisco. Please explain how the CA welfare code already allows for drug-free housing under CA "housing first" laws. We don't see it. Apparently the @WSJopinion doesn't see it either...
It’s so disappointing, and I hope state officials stop obstructing the progress San Francisco needs on drug-free and recovery-inclusive supportive housing. From today’s @WSJ: “Hundreds have died from drug overdoses in San Francisco’s homeless housing projects. Recovering

Adding recovery housing in San Francisco is about expanding options and respecting the different paths people take to stay in recovery. A Rand survey of nearly 400 encampment residents in Los Angeles found that about one-third preferred placement in drug-free housing.
In the wake of Gov. @GavinNewsom’s recovery housing veto, I’m today introducing local legislation to halt city-funded drug-tolerant models of Permanent Supportive Housing, or PSH, in San Francisco. The legislation will mandate that all city-funded PSH instead be drug-free. (1/4)

San Francisco will never recover if we keep releasing drug dealers back to the street. What's even the point of arresting and charging them if nothing happens? @DanielLurie, you need to do something about this. Speak out. Hold a press conference. Anything.
“On Thursday, @SFDAOffice said 11 defendants were charged this week with felonies related to drug trafficking in the Tenderloin. Prosecutors moved to detain eight of the defendants, without any apparent success.”

Another SHOOTING on the street today. On the heels of Joey Alexander from Urban Alchemy getting shot & killed in front of the SF main library after he asked a man to stop using drugs. Public drug use is DANGEROUS. @sf_safetynews @SF_DPH @SFPD @GrowSF @ConnectedSF
10/4/2025: San Francisco’s Drug, Homeless, & Violence crisis is spiraling out of control! Just this morning a drug dealer shot a person in front of a rehab. End open air drug markets NOW! Public Safety 1st!

Gov. Newsom Vetoed Recovery Housing Bill AB255. He failed to lift California's prohibition on funding drug-free housing for people exiting homelessness who want a sober supportive environment. Instead Californians in recovery are left with the status quo of drug-tolerant housing,

2 out of 3 people voted for treatment-mandated felonies to get people the HELP they need BUT no one in SF is implementing it. When elected officials thwart the will of the people, voters will take recourse. It's time for a DRUG-FREE Sidewalks proposition. @MattMahanSJ
Ending the phenomenon of public drug use must be public safety priority #1 in San Francisco. That’ll require expanding our recovery-oriented continuum of care; getting every public drug user into the criminal justice system as promptly as possible; maximizing our use of Prop 36’s
