And we just got our darkfield objectives in today! This was taken with my camera looking down the eye-piece, so not great quality. But I just love watching them! ☺️

Hi all! Dr. Saria McKeithen-Mead (@Sciria_) found that premature integration of an Integrative and Conjugative Element is harmful for its host and therefore is carefully regulated. Saria is now at Stanford in the Huang and Sonnenburg groups, stay tuned for her upcoming endeavors!
Curious about what leads to this dramatic phenotype in Bacillus subtilis? In some my graduate work, I investigate the importance of regulating the timing of integration for a class of integrative mobile genetic elements here: https://t.co/9AOzgtqVE1

I got to hear about this super cool work from Saria @Sciria_ at the Stress conference this past summer. So nice to see it officially published. Congratulations!! 🎉🎉 https://t.co/8uGqeBQAmJ

@CantlonLab It seems to be the goal of all the accounts and the overall PR campaign. To pretend it’s all about one woman’s relationship and then discredit her, to distract from the chorus of others. Otherwise they have to argue that we are all liars. Or we’re offended by a few profanities.
@mTOR_Leaks @PhilosophyMeToo @HeatShock_Helen @DR_RAGEBERG @miranda13085 @crismunozp The PR effort to make this about 1 ex lover is transparent. There’s two people reported to HR, KK, more that are anonymous in the original investigation, there’s myself and Ottina & at least two others who spoke on record to the Globe but weren’t included so that’s 7+.

Tech inspired by #Bacillus spores ("SSHELs") on the cover today! Nautical interpretation of SSHELs plunging into a wave (surface of target ovarian cancer cell doing macropinocytosis). SSHELs then unleash doxorubicin cargo (red) into the oceanic cytosol. #microbiology #cancer

Here we show the effect of translation stress on sporulation in Bacillus subtilis. Sporulation is delayed when cells lack EF-P. Expression of Spo0A, the first sporulation transcription factor, is delayed. #translation #ribosomes

Elongation factor P (EF-P) is a universally conserved translation factor that prevents ribosome stalling at amino acids that form peptide bonds with low efficiency, particularly polyproline tracts....

This story is finally out in @eLife ! Excited to share the core of my post-doc work where I built a clinically relevant polymicrobial system of interest to chronic CF lung infection to define the community mechanisms driving shifts in antimicrobial susceptibility of P. aeruginosa
Excited to share @FabriceJPierre paper just published in eLife describing a new, data-driven model system for studying how polymicrobial communities in CF impact Abx efficacy. We got lots of help from folks at @DartCF @m2p2_dartmouth & @DezielEric

Cultural mentorship training is needed in academia. Anecdotally, I’ve heard of/witnessed countless PI’s assume their Black mentees are angry (when that mentee is really depressed) then work to punish said mentee for not acting how they think they should…

Our first foray into #cancer research is published in @CellReports, describing artificial bacterial spores ("SSHELs") that deliver drugs to specific cell types. https://t.co/hBECKJ7ZbV Check out Mimmo D'Atri's 2 min video explaining our technology:
3 labs, 2 lead postdocs, 1 global pandemic later... ACCEPTED! Stay tuned for the final version. Who woulda thunk that switching fields from #microbiology to #cancer drug delivery would be so hard?? Fun collaboration with @Tanner_Lab and D. Fitzgerald @theNCI @NCIResearchCtr

The answer to rampant houselessness is housing. Not shelters. HOUSING. Private space. A door that locks. A bed, not a cot. A toilet that isn’t shared. A refrigerator, stove, cabinets, a microwave. A place to leave one’s belongings safely. A place to be alone, unbothered.
This is what happens when you implement fascist policies instead of providing people with housing. Completely inhumane. What the actual fuck! @DebGrosspgh @bethanyhallam @MayorEdGainey
