TfpY is a conserved accessory protein found in type IV pili (T4P)-expressing bacteria. While T4P are often phage receptors, research in #JBacteriology suggests TfpY does not mediate phage defense, but instead facilitates efficient pilus assembly/function. https://t.co/kV6VofQepx

JB Editor's Choice: Ramírez-Guadiana, Rudner et al. perform a genetic screen to identify spore germination genes. Their data support a model whereby GerY, GerT, and the GerP play a role in the transit of nutrients across the spore coat. https://t.co/qgo9BdCqzG

Mycobacterium abscessus (Mabs) is often found in the cystic fibrosis (CF) lung, where it forms biofilms. Exogenous heme alters Mabs biofilms by preventing formation of a submerged film and promoting the growth of unattached aggregates. @JournalSpectrum: https://t.co/4ivLDvGUGA
