@fbunational @BMAResidents To those clueless: Our pay is significantly < than 2008. Cost of living has exploded. Doctors are leaving in droves. Strikes aim to increase pay, to retain doctors in the NHS to save your lives. Currently, physician assistants earn 10k more than the doctors that supervise them

GMC didn’t feel competent to set scope for PAs yet somehow thinks it is competent to decide who can CCT? This change will make NHS totally unsafe for patients. Is @wesstreeting ‘encouraging’GMC to make this change similarly to when GMC was ‘encouraged’ to agree to regulate PAs!

The draft GMC Order 2026 consultation just dropped. Buried in it is a fundamental change to who can be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). This matters enormously. Let me explain why.

@skwawkbox Coming soon to the UK, Consultants who have a certificate of completion of training yet have no medical degree and haven’t undertaken formal postgraduate training. Sounds insane doesn’t it? Yet I’ve no doubt it’s what is planned.

A Health Secretary that threatens to withdraw training places for doctors when we are short of them and need more of them can't be trusted with the future of the NHS and shouldn't be in charge of it.

Absolutely shocking behaviour from the health secretary! Threatening to withdraw training jobs for doctors if they don’t accept a real-terms pay cut… Knowing that the consequences of this will be our patients who’ll find it even harder to access to specialist care Disgraceful

The government says there’s no money to pay doctors £23/hr. Yet they’ve found £1,000,000,000 for NHS restructuring with no clear benefit to patients. Doctors: too expensive. Bureaucracy: unlimited budget. The priorities are crystal clear.

@wesstreeting appears to be deliberately causing a shortage in consultants, so that he can justify turning non-medically qualified people into consultants and force the public to accept medical care from these people. This is not safe and it is extremely unfair to the public.

The GMC was set up in 1858 to protect the public by creating a medical register to distinguish qualified doctors from unqualified ppl Ironically, THEY now are the ones abolishing this by registering non-medically trained ppl as “qualified”?! Then ⬇️ Now ⬇️

Again, public needs to understand this. These training places are how you get the specialists that patients require for clinics, operations and cancer care. They should not be anything to do with a scrap between unions and politicians - they're necessary.

The suggested threat from @wesstreeting that additional speciality training posts for doctors could be withdrawn if doctors strike is extraordinary. Medical Consultants, Surgeons, GPs, anaesthetists, radiologists, and psychiatrists have to go through a speciality training post

There is continuing discussion around the harm caused to patients by the nurse consultant-led ERCP service at @RotherhamNHS_FT between 2016-21. I believe its lessons must transform our understanding of patient safety and 'advanced practice'. A thread follows👇🧵(1/15)

Been away for a few days from the world of Medical Politics Let me try to summarise: 1. @TheBMA sacrificed IMGs as a policy choice and ensured local grads got jobs. 738 IMGs were put on a reserve list without any forewarning Most shrugged their shoulders as "tough but isnt life

CCT is the mark of a consultant doctor. It is assurance to a patient that they can trust the person treating them. GMC is a flawed organisation with no medical expertise. They want to bestow CCTs to anyone they please. This is a public safety issue. Please speak up against this

The new GMC Order is undergoing consultation. The GMC is seeking to remove the speciality register and decide by themselves who should be issued a CCT. This right is currently protected in law. This is the last hurdle before the GMC will be able to issue CCTs to PAs.

So, as a doctor I can’t accept a plastic pen from a pharmaceutical company because it might influence my prescribing decisions, but MPs can accept thousands in cash from those who want to privatise the NHS and it won’t affect their decision-making??? CTFO https://t.co/ax78s1RSRJ

Strikes are about pay & jobs More jobs means more opportunities for IMGs, especially after UKG prioritisation Sure, you can break the strike, but you'll be further reducing the chances of IMGs gaining employment, while also lowering their pay Is that what you want?
