So much Covid in kids too young to be vaccinated. Looks like pediatricians will be doing the heavy lifting during the next wave. So exhausting and frustrating. Please get vaccinated and don’t let your guard down when littles are around.
It’s amazing how just about every doc I know on

disagrees with Wen’s takes lately but the media keeps interviewing her. Why can’t people go on TV & say “Yes covid is still here & we need to all take safety measures”? Not restrictions, not lockdowns, SAFETY MEASURES!
Dear
@Twitter
Can you please add a category for “dangerous medical misinformation that will kill people” as an option when reporting a tweet or account?
Thank you,
Doctors and scientists everywhere
This is the first bday I’ve spent without my husband in 28 years. But I made the best of it with a good workout, trip to the mall and yummy dinner w/my mom & daughter. Now I’m on the couch in one of his old sweatshirts eating cake. Bring on 51.
My husband died 2 days ago after 6 years with cancer. When I see this shit it makes me so angry. Not just as a physician but as someone who has wished everyday that cancer had a cure.
@Dr_RShatsky
For those of you who are not pediatricians and have no idea what you are talking about, RSV & SARS-CoV2 are NOT the same virus. RSV is most dangerous to infants, esp preemies. Covid-19 is potentially dangerous to everyone.
Stop spewing random shit you read online.
Raise your hand if you sacrificed everything the past 7 months incl. your mental health, wore your mask, & stayed away from crowds to protect yourself & others. It’s disheartening how cavalier this admin has been even after a Covid outbreak. Smack in the face to those we’ve lost
I’m blocked by the so called “doctor” who is attacking my colleagues for promoting vaccination of children. I’ll consider myself lucky I can’t see her crap. But if your doctor is pro deadly disease in children, it’s time for a new doctor.
If you're at a dinner and somebody introduces himself as "Dr. Smith," you'd be rather upset to learn that he had a doctorate in musicology if you were to suffer a stroke at the table.
You guys think Twitter is bad when it comes to trolls and misinformation? Try posting a gentle reminder to wear a mask in public indoor spaces on Nextdoor. Your neighbors are way more awful than you realize. What shit show 🤦🏻♀️
@MBurt34
Nerves myelinate from head to toe.
2 mo: eye tracking, lifts head and neck
4 mo: uses arms, hand/eye coordination, up to hands and roll
6 mo: sit unsupported, roll both ways, transfer objects
9 mo: crawl, come to stand, feeding self
12 mo: cruise/walk, pincer grasp
Texas gov asking exhausted out of state HCWs who have been begging people to get vaccinated and wear masks to bail them out of a surge they refuse to manage is insulting. Do better Abbott.
Raise your hand if your vax was >8 mos ago, still wear your mask in public, are exposed to sick patients, have a high risk family member & are tired of waiting for the willfully unvaccinated to get their shit together to feel safe again so damn right your getting a booster
FYI, gloves are useless unless you change them. Taking my credit card and then packaging bagels with the same gloves is not any safer than no gloves at all and is just gross.
This is bullshit. Stop electing assholes who don’t care about girls, women, humans. Stop electing anyone who has no understanding of science, medicine, healthcare. Stop electing people who don’t understand the constitution.

I don’t know what’s going on out there but parents are not hearing the message:
🗣️ 99 is not a fever!
Also, true fevers can last 3-5 days during an illness, longer w/flu. It’s normal for it to go down with medicine but return when the medicine wears off. Pass it on.

@Cigna
This is devastating.

refused to pay for my husband’s PET scan pre-radiation. The doctor fought and lost. Used other images but now I’m not so sure it was good enough because the radiation didn’t help and his cancer grew.

in 2012-to find patients.
They weren’t here but I found my voice as a doctor and child health advocate. I stayed because of the friends I’ve made and to make a difference.

After 2+ years of physical, emotional and mental stress to protect my high risk spouse, he has tested positive for covid. He’s doing ok isolating at home, hoping 4 vaccines will do their thing.
Covid isn’t over my friends. Stay safe out there.
Parents,
Never apologize for wasting our time when a child “only has a cold”. We’re happy to be here for peace of mind. It’s what we do.
#Tweetiatrician
I just made a huge purchase for my home by myself for the first time while my husband, who is on hospice, sleeps peacefully. To be fair I did show it to him and he said he liked it.
I like to think of it as a reward to myself for the years of caregiving.
Fully vaccinated for 2 months. Already had hair, nail and doctors appointments. Just ate at a restaurant (outside)for the first time & it was so anxiety producing. More so than anything I’ve done. We are traumatized. Today was a big step and it was literally just for a burger.
Daughter: mom do you get paid when you’re on call.
Me: only the RVUs from babies seen at the hospital or patients seen in clinic.
Also me: which sounds ridiculous now that I say it out loud.
We do so much uncompensated work as physicians.
Make fun of mask wearing all you want but we are 3 weeks into a massive viral surge and I haven’t gotten, RSV, flu, covid, hand, foot & mouth, or a cold.
I can also hide the ridiculous acne breakout I’m now sporting.
Win win.
Those who aren’t in pediatrics have no idea what we are up against. When a parent says no to vaccines because they did their “research” it means they are fed a ton of misinformation. They start to believe that preventing disease is a bad thing!
Yesterday my vaccinated crew and I went to a an outdoor winery to listen to a Grateful Dead cover band. Just like the before times. It was glorious.
This is what vaccines gave us.

In light of the recent

cases, pediatricians from across Rochester have a message for our community: Vaccines are safe, they are effective, and they save lives.
Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane. Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves.
From our hero Dr. Anthony Fauci: Asymptomatic carriers account for 40-50% of transmissions of SARS-CoV2. This is why everyone needs to mask and maintain distance and avoid gathering together.
#AAP2020
News flash: your school aged child w/a cold does not need to be tested for RSV. It will not change management. There is no role for steroids or inhalers in kids w/colds, regardless of the viral cause, unless they are actively wheezing or have asthma.
To reduce the chance I’ll get sick and die from COVID (which means I’m less likely to spread it to you)
#WhyIVax
To reduce the chance I’ll spread COVID to someone too young to be vaccinated or immunocompromised (and also add a layer of protection for myself)
#WhyIMask
Terrible. After being out all weekend seeing very few masks on both adults and children too young to be vaccinated, I wonder if doctors are the only ones who care about covid at this point. Are we shouting into a void?

died from a stroke and pneumonia due to COVID on Friday. His father is a deputy with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office. Absolutely heartbreaking!💔
I care if people get vaccinated.
I care that the people in my community including my patients and my family are safe. I care about overworked HCWs.
It’s a cultural tradition in my family. We call it “don’t be selfish, do the right thing, take care of each other.”
Drs: Feeling confused, exhausted, disrespected arguing w/anti mask & COVID conspiracy theorists? Wondering what your years of school/experience is even for? Welcome to the world of pediatricians. Anti-mask is the new anti-vax.

I know exactly who needs to hear this, from a child expert no less:
10 YEAR OLDS ARE GIRLS NOT WOMEN AND THEIR BODIES ARE MADE TO GROW AND DEVELOP NOT MAKE A BABY
Some of y’all are spewing some disgusting fucked up shit.
Disinformation is not only fueling the pandemic and leading to deaths, but is also creating a divide between families and their pediatricians. We are working so hard to keep kids safe. Don't hate us.
You ever wake up in the middle of the night, stretch, and BOOM, you get the worst muscle pain in your calf you’ve ever had? Yea well that sucked and it still hurts this morning 😩
We will never eradicate
#measles
as long as we continue to use the current vaccine.
Why are so many people opposed to its eradication?
Do they secretly cherish the thought of measles still existing hundreds of years from now?
Well unlike some I do have a day job. We've now completed tech transfer of our patent-free Covid vaccine to India, still things to do there + now doing the same for Indonesia, Bangladesh, Botswana. Turns out vaccinating the world when no one else cares to is quite labor intensive

It’s called coronavirus, SARS-CoV 2, or COVID-19. This is the nomenclature every doctor uses. Literally no one calls it China Virus so just stop. It’s racist, uneducated and obnoxious.

, I promise to claim expertise in pediatrics only and avoid pretending I’m in expert in a field I don’t practice. Also having kids doesn’t make you a pediatrician, just saying.
(My husband has cancer, I’m not an oncologist. See how that works?)
Hi. Pediatrician here. Kids have gotten sick, died, and suffered prolonged symptoms from covid. They’ve also suffered from school closures, lack of activities, and family deaths. We need to protect them, the schools, their families, and communities. Get them vaccinated.
Given the rarity of severe covid-19 outcomes for children and limited clarity of risks, the criteria for emergency use authorization do not appear to be met for children, argue

Dear parents of teens:
Teens have rights. They are entitled to confidential healthcare regarding sexuality. I don’t care if you’re an unknown rapper, your daughter’s gyn report is not your business or your right.

No, Gatorade is not healthy. It’s full of sugar and not better than water for most kids/workouts. Use Pedialyte for electrolytes and dehydration.

We all want/need tour. I don’t go until fall. Please don’t ruin this for me by adding to our covid cases. Get yourself vaccinated ASAP if you haven’t already. If you can’t get vaccinated before your shows consider wearing a mask.

To all of those who matched in pediatrics, welcome! There is no better specialty. Just the other day I walked in as a baby pooped all over the dad. They took so long to clean her up and put on her diaper that she peed on mom! Seriously, you’re gonna love it.

Soon to be fully FDA approved, Pfizer vaccine safely prevents covid by allowing the body to make its own antibodies.
Not safe or FDA approved for this use? Ivermectin.
Still an experimental way to get antibodies after already getting sick and spreading? Monoclonal antibodies
This whole 🧵 about Judaism & abortion is a must read. But this is important. Jews in the US are tired of lawmakers using Christianity as a basis for policy. We aren’t all Christian. It’s forced on us all the time, especially this time of year.
Another reason I suspect so many Jews are in favor of safe and legal abortion (83% pro choice according to Pew, behind only atheists, agnostics & Unitarians) is connected to the fact that we have historically been strong supporters of the separation of church and state.
Waiting for FDA to approve the Pfizer vaccine for 12-15 year olds and stressing about how I will login and get an appointment for my daughter right away is like waiting for concert tickets to go on sale and calling Ticketmaster at exactly the right time.
#Tweetiatricians

We take care of kids birth to 18, well to profoundly sick, neurotypical to nonverbal, & double as psychiatrists. We advocate for food, healthcare, safety for our kids while facing anti-vax harassment & anti-LGBTQ hate. We are the lowest paid medical specialty.
#WeArePediatricians
For everyone hating on pediatricians for daring to want to protect kids and families from deadly disease, just know we are seeing record numbers of sick kids now that there are no masks in schools. This includes a massive flu outbreak much earlier than expected.
#GetYourFluShot
If I ever completely burnout from practice of pediatrics, it won’t be from high volume or systems issues (of which there are many), it will be from the constant fight against misinformation, the attacks from AVs, & excessive/inappropriate demands from parents
When parents tell you how much your little patient loves you and talks about you and even pretends to be you when they play doctor, you know you made the right choice.
#PedsIsTheBest
#Tweetiatrician
Dear parents,
It takes more work and time to tell you why antibiotics or otc cough/cold medication ISN’T necessary. But it’s better for your child. In pediatrics, less is more.
Sorry if that doesn’t mesh with the “doctors are Big Pharma shills or only push meds” narrative
One narrative I sometimes come across is that physicians push medication.
As a Pediatrician, a major part of my appointments is discussing what NOT to give to children.
Just because it’s sold in a pharmacy, is “organic,” or “natural” doesn’t mean it’s safe let alone effective.
