For everyone hating on pediatricians for daring to want to protect kids and families from deadly disease, just know we are seeing record numbers of sick kids now that there are no masks in schools. This includes a massive flu outbreak much earlier than expected.

And to be clear, death is not the only outcome we’re concerned with from flu/covid. Missed school/sports, missed work for parents, triggering chronic disease like asthma, and overwhelming a healthcare system that is currently not equipped to see the number of patients who need us

I'm in Maryland just outside DC. One of our patients had to be flown to PA because there were no local PICU beds available. She had RSV and was on high flow for several days

As a teacher, I work in small groups with 6-8 year olds all day. Yesterday I was coughed and sneezed on more time then I can count. Getting our shots sooner rather then later.
