This is an abuse of "common sense". Our sense of "safety" is contextual and relative. No one from a rural area will EVER "feel" safe in NYC no matter how safe it is in reality because it feels foreign to them. To demand this of NYC is absurd. Ideas like this enable dictators.
My baseline for an "acceptable" amount of crime is my 75 year old mother feeling safe walking around alone at 11PM. If not then crime is too high. It's unacceptable for law abiding taxpayers to be unable to walk the streets of their city and it's insane that we act like it is.
