Sustainable success comes from small, parallel, safe-to-fail experiments and scaling only proven responses, rather than betting big on ambitious but rigid plans.

Conventional strategy fails by ignoring the inevitability and unpredictability of change in complex systems. Adaptive strategy follows a Detect – Respond – Evolve cycle: sense weak signals, act quickly through small, decentralized decisions, and scale or cut based on feedback.

Complexity science underpins adaptive strategy, but the latter is not the former applied to organizations. Strategy is the management of constraints to enable coherent action in a desired direction - amidst tensions such as short vs. long, exploitation vs. exploration, etc.

£29-35k annual salary to be a "senior research executive" in a "global healthcare team" for a "highly respected research agency". How are they respected when they pay an insultingly low salary for the position?.

For positioning to work in practice, it must be adaptive, not static. As markets evolve, so too must positions to avoid strategic drift. As always, I hope that you will like it and have a great weekend!.

Differentiation refers to effective differences between offerings; these can be real or perceived, visible or invisible to customers. Unseen differentiation (e.g., in production processes) can drive strategic advantages even if customers fail to recognize it.

Positioning is about deliberately choosing how and for whom to deliver value through distinct activities, but it may or may not involve uniqueness. Many confuse positioning with differentiation, but although the two terms are related, they are not synonymous.

The corporate reality is generally more about small increments than wholesale shifts. Ultimately, whether they work or not, plans are required in the modern corporate setting.

The three most important variants are strategic planing, operational planing, and executional planning. Sorting action on RGU and strategic priority will help planners to make sense of what they need to do in the short-, medium- and long-term, respectively.

In today’s free-for-all Strategy in Praxis, James Hankins concludes our planning theme with a practitioner’s commentary. Among other things, he argues:. There are many forms of planning, and understanding the how they all fit together is key for most strategists in practice.

Communication in both directions is crucial. Employees may fail to see the forest for the trees, but managers habitually fail to see the trees for the forest. As always, I hope that you will like it and have a great weekend!.
