excited to hear what you think. You can treat it as a comedy or treat it as a philosophy novel.

Being a university prof IS my retirement gig. For the most part I love it. Most students are great, but the not-so-great tend to stand out more as the years pass (and the addiction to their phones increases).
@bruceclarkprof @rnason_dal Been there, done that . retired 🍺.

Or they intend to, but realize the impracticality of watching all of the videos for the first time the night before the exam. I have often thought that for many students, the process of taking the time and effort to provide extra support materials actually backfires . .
@rnason_dal They don't watch the lectures . sigh.

Your last line strikes the nail on the head.
@rnason_dal Yes… this is driven, in part, by young students not using university as a means to get educated but rather as a passport to a career I think. The only “fix” I can think of is if one builds their own audience. But credentialism (not education) is the real+hard problem to solve.

Most of my classes have been flipped for over 15 years. Lectures and tutorials have always been recorded. Issue is that many students do not want class discussion as that involves their active participation. Also an issue of discipline of preparation.
@_GaryWilson @rnason_dal I’d love a more ancient times model. Tiny groups with extremely driven students and a knowledgeable professor. I also think it makes sense to focus on mastery over grades (possibly at the expense of a uniform velocity). And throw in a flipped classroom (=class for discussions).
