NEW: This year's @Players_Era Championship, despite media reports, is *not* guaranteeing teams $1M in NIL money. In fact, @UNLV's deal, which @Sportico obtained via FOIA, was set to pay $800K in NIL while requiring school to buy $200K in tickets.š https://t.co/NE0udoZ9Fx

Schools such as UNLV stand to walk away from this week's Player's Era Championship with a lot less than seven figures in NIL money for its players.

Saban is such a hypocrite. He literally fired Lane Kiffin after the CFB semifinals because Lane couldnāt handle being Alabama OC and FAU head coaching duties.

Not a single person Iāve spoken to in the industry of college football, including agents(!), would allow Lane Kiffin to coach a SEC team in the playoff after accepting a job with a rival SEC team. This narrative has been manufactured by CAA and filtered through ESPN.

Sure. Lots of companies let an employee who leaves for a direct competitor stick around for a month, keep their log ins, maybe poach some team members.
Kirk Herbstreit implores Ole Miss administrators to allow Lane Kiffin to coach the Rebels ā if he leaves for LSU ā and let him finish what he and his players started.

I read the entire 65,000-word order in the AAF bankruptcy case. My policy is I won't write about a legal filing until I've read it at least once, and as many times as needed thereafter, until I feel like I fully understand it. That's not a great approach for breaking news or
@McCannSportsLaw @Sportico One question: Did you read the entire 65,000-word order? Cause if you did, I'd have a whole new level of respect. šš

Some college football powerhouses are clinging to one-sided revenue-sharing deals that heavily favor the schools. These programs are either too proud to adapt or simply havenāt grasped that the recruiting landscape has fundamentally shifted. Teams willing to offer players fair

The six-year bankruptcy litigation for the bankrupted Alliance of American Footballāremember the AAF, the league that abruptly collapsed, and players & staff weren't paid?āends in a judgment for $1. Not a typo. I have details + analysis for @Sportico: https://t.co/WPpuTIvT2P.

The AAF was supposed to be a spring league, but it ran out of money and collapsed. A bankruptcy judge has ruled on the fallout of that failure.

I suppose the good news for @Players_Era is that even if they aren't actually guaranteeing/paying every participant $1M this year, @ESPN will continue to report that they are. https://t.co/NE0udoZHv5

In its debut year, Players Era made a splash by guaranteeing $1 million in NIL money to each of its participating teams. This year, the financial ground has shifted, and Players Era has subtly massaged its messaging around its promised payouts for the current event, saying it

Should heavily subsidized and floundering programs like UMass Football continue chasing FBS dreams? @Sportico's @DanielLibit, @novy_williams, & @LevAkabas tackle the issue: "Since 2012, UMass has posted the worst record in FBS" https://t.co/KCtZKvT0XW

UMass may have gone 0-12, their first winless full season in program history (excluding 0-4 2020). But that means they can only go up next year!

UPDATE: @PoweredByBPS CEO Rob Sine counters @UNLV claim Blueprint is not handling Players Era deliverables for school, and provided @Sportico emails showing a Blueprint employee communicating with Players Era this week about tournament specifics.
As a small tidbit, @UNLVathletics tells me they are no longer using Blueprint Sports for any Players Era stuff, even though @PoweredByBPS (as operator of UNLVās NIL collective) was the signatory on the @Players_Era agreement.
