As college sports enters its most transformative era, many power league ADs are urging leaders to explore collective bargaining. They are attending CBA presentations & one SEC AD reveals his “athlete-employee” plan. “I’m not biting my tongue anymore.”.

The Big Ten distributed rev-share to athletes of three of its schools Tuesday. All schools will have revenue distributed by the end of the month, the league says. Many schools front-loaded payments this spring, resulting in a smaller number of distributions Tuesday.

Schools are submitting to the conference office those athletes who are to receive payments, the dates of payments and the amounts. The centralized method is one way for schools to avoid complications that come with distributing millions in rev-share from a university.

Interestingly, the Big Ten - not the individual schools - is distributing rev-share from the conference office to athletes via PayPal. In a centralized payment system, the league is making payments on behalf of schools to their athletes from school distribution withholdings.

In addition to those rev-share numbers, Teamworks says collectives paid over $71 million to athletes in June alone - a stunning figure that illustrates the front-loading of payments before the new enforcement entity launched.

Opendorse and Teamworks - systems that schools are using to facilitate rev-share pay - tell @YahooSports they distributed more than $16 million combined from schools to athletes on Day 1 of rev-share Tuesday. PayPal, the system used in the Big Ten & Big 12, did not provide data.

Those athletes put on a DSA list are (1) exempt from roster limits at their current school and (2) are exempt from roster limits at their new school should they transfer. The DSA tag remains with the athlete for their career - another piece negotiated in the settlement.

Another important point: Designating an athlete as a DSA is entirely at the school's discretion - not the athlete's choice - and schools have agreed to "act in good faith.". This was part of the House settlement negotiations to revisions of the roster limit concept.

More clarity here from the NCAA Q&A: As highlighted, every athlete who was eligible for practice/competition on a team last year is eligible to be added to a DSA list by their school *if* they would have lost their roster spot because of the new roster limits.

A reminder: An athlete is eligible to be placed on a DSA list if he/she (1) would have been removed from the school's 2025-26 roster due to new roster limits; (2) was an eligible member of a team in 2024-25; (3) was recruited & assured by a school of a 2025-26 roster spot.

There is no limit to how many athletes a school can designate as a DSA. Deadline to submit DSA lists is July 6. However, the DSAs are now free to transfer this summer and “must be released from their contract prohibition” with their existing schools, per documents.

There is a new, one-time transfer portal window. NCAA Committee on Legislative Relief has issued a waiver to permit athletes who schools place on “Designated Student-Athlete” lists to enter the portal July 7-Aug. 5. DSAs are grandfathered-in athletes exempt from roster limits.

Sun Belt expansion targets in Conference USA would be faced with a large price tag to leave. Exiting CUSA schools owe two years of distribution and must buy out of the conference's grant-of-rights - a total expected to be at least $5 million and as much as $10 million.

While remaining at 13 schools means a slight increase in revenue distribution with Texas State's exit, the decision comes with complications, including the potential elimination of divisions in football, the reconfiguration of schedules and higher travel expense for schools.

Sun Belt executives held meetings today over expansion, but no decision is imminent, sources tell @YahooSports. The league will continue discussions on adding a member or staying at 13 schools. Several possible expansion targets were discussed, most notably Louisiana Tech.

Those opting out of the settlement are *not* permitted to directly share revenue with athletes, but are not required to adhere to the new roster limits. However, their athletes are still required to submit 3rd party NIL deals thru the NIL Go clearinghouse.

A total of 319 NCAA DI schools chose to opt into the House settlement for the 2025-26 academic year, sources tell @YahooSports. That's 82% of DI. The deadline to opt in for this year was Monday. Going forward, schools must decide by March if they are opting in for the next year.

Schools are starting to distribute revenue to athletes today - a historic moment. This morning, Opendorse and Teamworks - systems that schools are using to facilitate payments - distributed the first batch of rev-share. "It hit their account at 9 a.m. ET," says one facilitator.
