Thanks to everyone @DanforthCenter and in the Bart and Carrington labs for a successful @PlantTechJam! What did we learn? Plants get sick and microbes are fun.

I love the associated picture and story. Great lesson on survivorship/selection bias. https://t.co/X7hulepu2K
@Grey_Monroe @Nature What is called the "mutation rate" is estimated *after* various repair mechanisms have operated (which are in themselves heritable) and the individual has survived to a level where it can be genotyped. Better to say that the rate is also affected by the epigenome.

Now that I have 100K followers, I want to talk about #OvarianCancer. Specifically my gritty story. The goal is awareness. I hope you find this narrative informative.

Three dope EC Black scientists at the @DanforthCenter wrote a letter to @ThePlantCell to share our experiences in academia & suggestions to improve the culture for Black scientists to thrive. I enjoyed writing this with @KionaElliott & @taymharris! 🥳💪🏾

George Floyd will never again play games with his daughter, Gianna. He’ll never go on walks through the park with his fiancée, Courteney. He will never play basketball with his brother, Philonise. True justice would mean George Floyd was never killed in the first place.

Voting. Got out to vote 6ish like I usually do. Instead of less than a dozen at the poll, easily many dozens in line. Democracy in action♥️

😂 check out my grad school recap video! My nerves weren’t in shape to do this a year ago—so we just gotta take this 2-year recap 🤪 Lmk what you think! https://t.co/b0qf9xqZt3

As someone who switched from the Pseudomonas-Arabidopsis pathosystem to ipomovirus-cassava, the plant virology posters and sessions at #planthealth2020 have been a scientific wonderland for me.

Really enjoying #PlantBio20 thus far. I can think of one improvement that could be made, though - a little bit more time between talks would be fantastic for people writing questions and to allow the audience to mentally transition from topic to topic.

Unexpected quality of life improvement from attending a virtual conference: I can turn my laptop sideways to read sideways labels

Just spent all day tetris-ing figures and text onto my #planthealth2020 poster. Pretty proud of how it turned out, it's submitted, and now I should sleep... But maybe first a brownie? Seriously, though - so stoked for that meeting and #PlantBio20

Excited to have this opportunity... but the submission system is really temperamental. Beware - pages would fail to load, progress gets erased, and somehow I've now reached the poster upload page without entering abstract text or payment info. 🤔😐🙃

is it just me or if you spend 2 seconds thinking about systemic racism in academia, you quickly realize that we would need to pay grad students and post-docs much much more? #ShutDownSTEM

Put down that paper for the day. Put down your data analysis for the day. Put down your experiments for the day. Postpone your academic achievement tweets. Use this time to LISTEN and LEARN about systemic racism in academia. #ShutDownSTEM #ShutDownAcademia
