When we talk about getting faster, it’s not just one exercise or drill, it’s understanding how to train across the entire load velocity spectrum. You need exposure to everything from max-velocity sprinting to resisted and loaded work. That’s how you develop both the ability to

Feeding the Birds this Fall with Roadrunners SC. Training included the atomic workout and gamification of drills teaching speed, deceleration, and change of direction. Kids got faster and had fun! Mission accomplished!

People see something done fast and assume it must be developing speed. That’s the mistake. Ladders are fine…you can use them for specific drills, warm-ups, or basic coordination. You can even add a reactive layer and make them more legitimate. The problem is when people

Sports science keeps searching for answers to the injury epidemic—but forgets that generations of athletes have grown up without physical education, recess, or free play. Those were once the foundations of elite performance. Without them, we’re seeing the inevitable result:

“I love watching you play.” That’s it. No stats. No critiques. No car ride commentary. Just presence. Just support. Just love. It’s the phrase every kid needs. And too few ever hear.

Sometimes…. The best way to get faster… Is to just keep training and get older…. Aka… trust the process. 3 years ago this girl clocked a 1.39. then she got in the sub 1.30…Then sub 1.20… Now? We’re aiming for sub 1.10 We didn’t do anything special in our training,

The goal of training is NOT to crush yourself and be as sore as possible The goal is to make consistent progress each week In order to do that, you MUST leave a little bit in the tank to build on next time Progress tomorrow > Ego today

More efficient use of a soccer players limited time and energy will allow them to get faster and fitter without derailing technical growth. Check out my latest article on how to better manage these finite resources! @houndsspeed. https://t.co/zHXOhH1sTi via @SimpliFaster

Too often, any physical shortcoming a soccer player demonstrates is misattributed to a “lack of fitness.” As Coach Mike Whiteman explains in our ongoing series on misconceptions, it’s not “poor...

Train the feet 🦶🏽 • Maybe the lowest hanging fruit in all of performance. This summer we accumulated 45-60min a week with an intentional focus on the foot and lower leg 👇

Early specialization comes with a cost, one we often don’t see until it’s too late. The major theme from my youth training program ✅ The risks of early specialization ✅ How we’re overloading kids before they’re ready ✅ Why resilience matters just as much as skill

Movement pattern splits have become my current favorite way to program - Allows for structural balance - Fatigue management - Focus on specific weak patterns * Days can be in any order. * Day 3 can also just be an upper push/pull day See example below 👇

All training is experimental. If you subscribe to a program and “trust the process”, you are not growing as a coach. Learn to cook, don’t follow a recipe.
