People say science twitter has lost its mojo, but we just main-character'd a guy for being insufficiently committed to mentoring, and it was the one guy who has a public, standing offer to be an informal advisor to literally any scientist in the world

Three of the more costly and frequently used reagents in molecular biology are rolling circle amplification (RCA) mix, chemically competent MachOne (or other E. coli) cells, and Gibson assembly mix. Postdoc Julian Willis—who is starting his own lab in the UK soon—developed

This recent talk features ChromBPNet, our upcoming flagship predictive sequence model of base-resolution chromatin accessibility profiles (ATAC-seq, DNase-seq, scATAC-seq cluster pseudobulks) with built-in de-novo enzyme bias correction. 1/
Can’t recommend this talk by @anshulkundaje enough. Also thanks to @broadinstitute for sharing on YouTube

Two new books call ‘private equity’ what it actually is, but neither offers much hope for emancipation from our eternal hostile takeover.

Prime editors can tweak DNA in ways that Cas9 -- and even base editors -- cannot. Clinical trials are expected to begin by 2025. In the last few days, three papers have pushed the method forward.🧵

A friend gifted my partner a pez dispenser shaped like a poop emoji for their lactaid. I’d this what it feels like to get old?

(Ab)Using the @plasmidsaurus sequencing service is sort of amazing. For $30!!!, I was able to rule out the presence of XX/X0, ZZ/ZW, and ZZ/Z0 chromosomal sex determination in the sea urchin I work with, and was able to generate some hypotheses to follow up on.

I am BEGGING you to turn off any bots you created and have them stop voting at 12 p.m. ET. As it stands right now, I can't get into the form to turn it off. 😅
We'd love to give you another #MBLMarchMadness vote update, but we literally can not get into the form. Who is winning? WE HAVE NO IDEA! It's ROTIFER VS AXOLOTL — TAKE NO CHANCES! VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!

We will win recognition in the end, but this transparent delay tactic is keeping us from the fair contract we deserve. Adequate childcare, int’l student protections, and COLA cannot wait: we call on Duke to live up to their DEI commitments and listen to their workers.

No peer institution has taken such a hardline anti-union stance. With grad workers around the country (e.g. @gradworkersofBU, @33unitehere) winning elections by historic margins, Duke's tactic threatens to reverse the immense progress won by the grad union movement since 2016.

BREAKING: Duke attys have indicated they intend to challenge the legal standing of grad workers as employees, aiming to reverse the NLRB’s 2016 Columbia decision. @DukeU: stop these reprehensible union-busting tactics, recognize our majority, and meet us at the bargaining table.

My company just listed on LinkedIn a job posting for what I’m currently doing (so we’re hiring another UX writer) and now thanks to salary transparency laws, I see that they intend to pay this person $32k-$90k more than they currently pay me, so I applied.

told a joke on a zoom meeting and no one laughed so I said “wow everyone’s microphones must be muted because I didn’t hear any laughs” and someone goes “none of us are muted”

I love this adorable little incubator. It heats and cools, can go from around ~4°C to 60°C and is very very quiet. Temp guage is off by half a degree so keep a wireless thermometer in there to adjust your setpoint, but pretty good for the money and so smol https://t.co/hNKVBH4Pgn

Re: my Duke gripes and the union effort, YSK: 1. I’m lucky to be in an awesome lab; 2. I love the science I do and the students I work with; 3. I want them to do better because I care deeply about the institution that gave me a chance at my dreams.
