They can’t! None of the supplements reduced LDL or total cholesterol compared to placebo. In fact, garlic supplement caused 7.8% ⬆️ in LDL-c.

Important to mention that SELECT included pts with BMI≥27 and **preexisting cardiovascular disease** but without diabetes -> still a high-risk group
GLP-1 receptor agonists can reduce the risk of adverse cardiovascular events in pts with diabetes. Whether the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide can also reduce cardiovascular risk in pts with overweight or obesity but without diabetes is unknown.

BMI variability was assessed using the standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV) of each participant.
