Sexual orientation 101
1. Some people are attracted to people of the same sex. (Lesbian/gay)
2. Some are attracted to people of the opposite sex. (Straight)
3. Some to both sexes. (bisexual)
This has nothing to with “gender identity” (TQ+)
LGB issues are not TQ+ issues.
The first thing that happens in this little girl’s life is that her parents sue the clinic because she is a girl. In case anyone fails to understand: this is sex-based discrimination. It is based on biological sex. Not “gender”.
Please cherish your “gender non-conforming” children. Boys who sew, girls who tinker with cars. Be the adults in the room. Don’t give them binders, hormones or surgery: give love and real *affirmation*: affirm their uniqueness and help to steady them in this chaotic world!
Johns Hopkins now describes a lesbian as a “non-man attracted to non-men”. Are there seriously any people out there who don’t understand how offensive this is? Anyone?
The idea that someone born male can be a lesbian is not an April Fool’s joke. It is an insult arising from the revolting pornification of lesbians that has long appealed to a certain type of straight men.
I support trans rights. That is -
The right not to be intimidated or harassed;
The right not to suffer discrimination in housing, transport, (non-sex-specific) jobs, or health care.
**The demand to be seen/validated as the opposite sex or a self-defined “gender” is not a right.
I want to thank everyone who steadfastly stands up for Kate & me and the rest of the team at LGB Alliance in the face of constant abuse. Those who desperately repeat lies about us do so because that’s all they have. We tell the truth - which is ultimately more powerful than lies.
Maya Forstater: “Human beings cannot change sex. It is not hateful to say that; in fact it is important in order to treat everyone fairly and safely. It shouldn’t take courage to say this, and no one should lose their job for doing so.”
Graham has made fighting for child safeguarding and the rights of lesbians and other women his top priority, sacrificing so much for these causes. And he is constantly being proved right. Unlike this author I think many would be proud to be
@glinner
.
Do you believe a girl should be able to wear jeans & have short hair, climb trees & play soccer, be good at maths, and as a teenager fall in love with other girls & plan a career as a pilot - all without anyone suggesting she’s really a boy? Congratulations: you’re a progressive.
It’s ok you don’t know why single-sex toilets matter to girls and women. Heavy periods, boys teasing girls or putting phones under the door, miscarriages, even using the toilet to escape from unwanted male attention - not your experience. But given that ignorance - why comment?
The “private space hidden from public view” is a cubicle. In single sex bathrooms, as in any other kind, they are private, single-person spaces. You’d swear from this tweet you had to share a cubicle with anyone, as if it didn’t have a lock on the door.
The Halifax debacle is a perfect illustration of the fact that today’s buzzword “inclusive” is used to mean the exact opposite of its true meaning. It signals: “Get out if you don’t think in the way we want you to think”.
True diversity is not “inclusive”. True diversity means respecting differences and boundaries. Adults are not “included” in children. Males are not “included” in females. Heterosexuals (whether or not they adopt the label “queer”) are not “included” in gays/lesbians.
If elite sport is over for Emily, that’s because he’s evidently not good enough to compete in his category. Getting grumpy - and even threatening legal action 🤣 - because he can’t barge into the women’s category is a textbook illustration of narcissism.
We heard at
@BBC
that a briefing note had been circulated saying that
@AllianceLGB
doesn’t do interviews. This was a bit surprising. I’d like to assure
@BBC
,
@itvnews
,
@SkyNews
@TimesRadio
@LBC
that Kate Harris, Kate Barker and I are always happy to do interviews.
Ruth Hunt became Stonewall CEO in 2014, after promising a key group of lesbian members including Kate Harris that SW would remain LGB. SW then met with 700+ trans people and added the T, reneging on her pledge. Hunt refused to respond to lesbians’ concerns./1
Why are so many people laying into
@afneil
and
@wesstreeting
? Yes we wish they’d spoken out sooner. Yes we wish they’d known about the horrors of child “transition”. But if we want to stop this thing, we want to encourage people to change their minds - publicly. Not berate them.
What just happened in Auckland should give everyone pause. This violent mob feels entitled to behave this way. They have been fed a sense of righteousness. This points to a colossal failure of political and moral leadership.
@billybragg
It isn’t “reactionary” to stand up for women’s rights.
It isn’t “bigoted” to assert that lesbians don’t have penises and gay men don’t have vaginas.
It isn’t “rightwing” to express concerns about child safeguarding.
So sick of this posturing by people who haven’t got a clue.
It isn’t possible to “misgender” people who don’t have a “gender”
@IndiaWilloughby
. If you get our sex wrong, we’ll think you’re a bit odd and get on with our day. We know what sex we are.
But go ahead if it brings relief.
No one is trying to “break” you.
I think someone needs to explain to
@PompeySteph
that it is permissible for a woman to wear a T shirt as she goes about her business. Criticizing her for refusing to chat at a moment of Steph’s choosing, not hers, displays what we call a sense of male entitlement.
Congratulations Amy Hamm on delivering a master class in responding under cross examination.
Measured, insightful, calm, showing the way to everyone - not just in British Columbia but worldwide - how to combat insanity. With sanity. Big doses of it.
#IStandWithAmyHamm
I wonder if
@bbc
would interview me about vasectomies or the problems faced by men trying to get jobs in sectors dominated by women. No? Then why is it prepared to interview an endless stream of men about the rights of lesbians and other women? We are here. We are many.
I believe the world witnessed the first open parliamentary debate on sex and gender in the world yesterday - in the UK. For years, gender identity enthusiasts have used a variety of techniques to suppress this debate. It will not work any more.
/1
@PeterTatchell
Honestly at this point, Peter, you are so far away from the scientific evidence and informed public opinion that I’d say: please carry on exposing the absurdity of your position. But do stop giving the impression you speak for LGB people. You absolutely do not.
@PrueBray
The use of words like “cis” and “misgendering” is based on the belief that everyone has a gender identity. But many people don’t; in fact many people find it a sexist, regressive notion. People are free to hold beliefs, but not to impose those beliefs or their jargon on society.
Congratulations Denise Fahmy!
At an internal Teams meeting, hostile comments were made about people who hold gender critical beliefs. …. during a work discussion about the award (and removal) of a grant to LGB Alliance.
The only registered charity that stands up exclusively for people with same-sex sexual orientation has every right to be a registered charity.
Of course it does!
#LGBAllianceWin
We are delighted that the tribunal found in our favour and that Mermaids and the LGBT Consortium have failed in their bid to remove our charitable status.
#LGBAllianceWin
See our statement here:
Twitter has imposed a Ghost ban and Search ban on LGB Alliance, for no reason, without notification, and without means of appeal. Clearly, certain Twitter admin want the voices of people with same-sex orientation silenced. This is driven by homophobia. It will not succeed.
I am trying to understand what drives some women to protest about lesbians holding a speed-dating event - an event that, for obvious reasons, excludes people born male. Don’t they know what homosexuality is? Do they think it doesn’t exist? Or that it’s mean and discriminatory?
@FinnWhite26
Thank you for making this clear. There are still some people who were under the impression that the main priority of the Green Party was promoting good environmental legislation and measures to combat climate change.
For years
@victor_madrigal
has persuaded himself and tried to convince everyone else that all LGB people love self-ID. Today, at the end of his official visit, he finally met, under pressure, with
@AllianceLGB
,
@LesbianLabour
and
@MensNetwork1
. It was a bumpy ride for Victor./1
Why do I oppose “gender identity” dogma? In the 1970s I met men who’d smirk they felt “like lesbians inside.” I took it as an unfunny, tedious attempt at a joke. Today, we’re told some people with male bodies *are* lesbians. It’s still unfunny and tedious, but no longer a joke./1
On
@BBCWomansHour
this morning,
@EHRCChair
named the right of association of lesbians & gay men as the first area where it would be helpful to clarify that “sex” means biological sex. That Stonewall objects to this makes it crystal clear that today’s Stonewall opposes LGB rights.
Please stop conflating objective *sex* with subjective *gender*. It is harming the rights of women and LGB people and confusing children.
Biology denialism is an assault on science and the Enlightenment. Replacing facts & reason with narcissistic entitlement is not progress.
Let’s be clear what is happening in the House of Commons today. Maria Eagle and others are filibustering to prevent a Bill that would stop unscrupulous online providers from selling harmful puberty blockers to mostly LGB teenagers from being heard. What a disgrace.
The wonderful
@jk_rowling
at her most acidic: when men trivialize male violence against women, she doesn’t hold back. And with trenchant insight, she speaks for hundreds of thousands of women - and some men - who don’t dare speak up but who are so grateful she speaks for them.
@WVSoccerdad
@TheVikingDane
@sueveneer
@fickleskittle
By all means, let's be rational. Let's look at the facts.
You've now called the battery (legal term for 'assault by beating') of a 60-year-old woman by a 26-year-old male, for which the man was convicted and fined, a minor offence. You've lol-ed while minimising. You entered my…
“We have to accept people are who they say they are.”
This is pernicious nonsense.
I can’t demand that you see me as I see myself. It’s absurd to expect it.
@zoesqwilliams
So you think a rare interview with a woman who just won an important case - a lesbian who was defamed and abused by her own colleagues and faced cross examination so harsh it paralleled her experience of being raped as a teenager - was giving “uncritical airtime to GCs”? Wow.
“These injustices happened under my nose. Either I took no notice, or didn’t think it was my fight — when it should be everybody’s fight.”
These words brought tears to my eyes. I don’t know why. Are we finally getting through?
The point is not that the sadistic murderer is transgender. That is no more relevant than his religion, if he has one.
The point is that he is a man.
That matters: for statistics, for policy, and for informing the public - which is the task of media.
The reason most people assume
#SelfID
is no big deal is because it’s rarely explained in the media. The public assumes a) it’s a minor issue that b) only affects a small minority and that it’s about c) kindness and the next progressive civil rights issue. None of which is true.
It is not true that everyone has a gender identity. Neither I nor most of the people I know has one or wants one. We’re gender non-believers. Of course non-believers can and should treat believers with respect. But when believers impose their belief on society, we have a problem.
Child safeguarding is not rightwing or reactionary or social conservatism. Everyone in society should care about child safeguarding and be concerned by attempts to blur the boundaries between adults and children.
@theJeremyVine
Women’s groups and LGB Alliance have offered many many times to come on your show and explain. We are still here. Happy to reply if you DM me.
@EndoSouthC
@PompeySteph
The more men who are appointed to positions that should obviously be for women, the greater the indignation - and the stronger the resistance grows. If you think for a moment women will just shrug and accept the new status quo, you are seriously detached from reality.
Have you ever heard a definition of “gender identity” that does not invoke and rely on traditional gender stereotypes? I’m mystified that gender identity campaigners are able to present themselves as “progressive”.
I just asked
@amnesty
how they define a woman. “We follow the law”, was the answer. “Ah”, I said, “so you follow CEDAW?” “Yes” “And you know CEDAW defines ‘woman’ on the basis of sex, not gender.”
“No, you’ve got that wrong”, said the man on the phone.
@BenjaminABoyce
No Benjamin. That is an “unpopular opinion” because it makes no sense. Women who want to “treated like men” want to be treated with respect, want to be paid decent salaries. Men who want to be “treated like women” have very different motives.
Happy birthday to the amazing
@jk_rowling
! Dear Jo, you mean the world to us, and to women and LGB people worldwide. Thank you for your courage, your irrepressible wit and insight, and the wonderful books you have given to children and adults everywhere!
#IStandWithJKRowling
Lesbians are exclusionary. We exclude males from our sex lives.
Gay men are exclusionary. They exclude females from their sex lives.
Homosexuality is exclusionary.
Gay Pride was once a time to shout: “It’s fine to be lesbian or gay!”
Today’s “Pride” is a hollow show.
Anyone who calls “same-sex attraction” a “coded term” or “dog whistle” is promoting homophobia.
TQ+ networks within the civil service, police, NHS, the arts sector and numerous other bodies are being allowed to distribute anti-gay, anti-women propaganda. This has to stop.
Those who rail at Kathleen Stock have ensured more people want to hear her talk. Those who’ve already denounced “Gender Wars” - on C4 at 10 pm this evening - will boost its viewing figures. And since KS is a moderate & a brilliant speaker, she will peak the nation.
Well done all!
To everyone who is currently using the word
#gender
as a polite word for “sex”:
You are stepping into a debate without realizing it.
Please stop it.
When referring to the difference between female and male, girls and boys, women and men, just say “sex.”
Thank you.
@stephenwhittle
Are you really one of those people who no longer knows what fascism is? And who thinks it is “cruel” to place males with other males in a hospital ward? But that it isn’t “cruel” to force women to share a ward with male people? How embarrassing. As for legal action: bring it on.
Trans people have - and deserve - their own groups. But calling them “LGBTQ+” is confusing.
TQ+ groups *deny* same-sex sexual orientation. They say what matters is not sex but “gender identity”.
So “No LGB without the T” makes no sense.
LGB people need our own groups too!
Graham Linehan has campaigned tirelessly on behalf of women’s and LGB rights and children’s interests for years, at great cost to his career and personal life. People called him obsessive. They mocked him.
They should have listened.
#GlinnerWasRight
Let’s cherish our “feminine” sons and our “masculine” daughters. Let’s encourage them to grow in self-confidence, to calmly reject ignorant, stupid suggestions that they might be the opposite sex. Let’s break down those stereotypes that oppress children and force them into boxes.
@stephenwhittle
This tweet is so disturbed and disturbing on every level. I have screengrabbed it as one of the worst examples of homophobia I’ve ever seen from a prominent transactivist. The last sentence is particularly abhorrent.
When you despair at the number of high-profile women who are helping to undermine women’s rights, it’s worth recalling, sadly, that this is hardly a new phenomenon. A large proportion of women opposed women’s suffrage./1
Informing readers that a woman has committed an appalling crime that was actually committed by a man is not journalism or factual reporting of any kind.
It is propaganda.
@free_equal
“Everyone has an internal sense of their own gender” is false.
Whenever anyone is asked to define this nebulous “gender”, they end up trotting out sexist stereotypes.
Millions of “masculine” women and “feminine” men know what we are: we are proudly non-conforming women and men.
“I’m going to speak for millions of lesbians around the world who are lesbians because we love other women. We will not be erased & we will not have any man with a penis tell us he’s a lesbian because he feels he is.” - Kate Harris
#IStandWithLGBAlliance
“Why are you always banging on about trans kids?”
Because most are LGB - esp. lesbians. Their “transition” is a form of gay conversion therapy - sanctioned by medics and falsely presented as a civil rights movement.
It is a concerted assault on same-sex sexual orientation.
I have no idea how it happened that a whole generation decided it was perfectly possible for a woman to have the body of a man, and of course some lesbians have penises, and anyone who disagrees is a fascist. I knew the education system had gone downhill but ….
Biological sex, like evolution, belongs in science classes.
Gender identity, like the Creation story, belongs in classes about different beliefs around the world.
Once we have achieved that, I will start to feel a sense of relief.
Everyone who cares about truth, everyone who cares about literature, everyone who cares about education should be up in arms about this. There is no need for “sensitivity readers” in a democracy.

@Jane66588568

@twtomwilson
So you’re happy to insult lesbians for asserting our boundaries. And even though we are LGB and loathe discrimination - and some of us are Jewish - you find the most offensive comparison possible to hurl at us. Know what? Carry on. It’s an own goal.
Does the UK public consider the “trans” issue a priority? No.
Does the public want to preserve the rights of women & LGB people? Most do, yes.
Does the public realize the “trans” issue is mostly about women’s & LGB rights? No.
Why? Because most media refuse to let us explain.
I know hundreds of gender-critical women and men and can honestly say I’ve never met a person who wishes trans people dead. It is horrible and irresponsible to tell young trans-identifying people that those championing the rights of women, LGB people and children wish them dead.
Dr David Bell, former governor of Tavistock & Portman Trust, has been explaining for years why puberty blockers are the wrong treatment. Today, he was finally interviewed on
@BBCPM
. And told Evan Davies in no uncertain terms that it is wrong to refer to “transgender children”.
A request to all LGBTQIA+ organizations. Could you please leave LGB out? Those LGB people who self-define as “Queer” will happily stay on board. The rest of us, who promote the rights/interests of people with same-sex (or both sexes) sexual orientation need our own organizations.
What we are witnessing is “a nasty, personal campaign against any woman who advocates strengthening the legal protections women already have. Even the Labour Party … has said it supports the EHRC’s proposed review of the Equality Act.“
This article is about the parents who gather the courage to stand up to those who tell them lies, and who advise them to tell their children lies. Let’s all do our best to promote positive images of tomboys.
How long before it sinks in that you can’t protect women’s rights if you can’t define “woman”?
How long before it sinks in that you can’t protect gay rights if you can’t define “gay”?
The blurred, circular definitions called “inclusive” are torpedoing our rights.
Imagine if Jehovah’s Witnesses were to impose their beliefs and language on society and to call everyone who refuses to comply “haters”, bigots”or “fascists”. That is what gender identity zealots have done. It is taking a long time to row back. One step at a time we’ll get there.
Disgusting headline
She came to speak about women’s rights and was hounded away by a frenzied mob.
The whole “anti” and “pro” framing here is part of the propaganda that gives the misogynistic activists a sense of entitlement.
Once we accept that no one can be “born in the wrong body”, the next step is to ask:
Whose interests are served, and whose interests are harmed, by promoting the quasi-religious belief that some people are “born in the wrong body”?
Are you still inclined to give
@bbc
the benefit of the doubt?
The only way to be a transwoman is to be male.
For
@BBC
to rule that this Wrongspeak justifies a complaint should prove to the most forgiving of observers that it has completely lost its way.
You can read the complaint submitted by LGB Alliance to the President of the Human Rights Council on Victor’s failure to fulfill his mandate here:
To coin a phrase: LGB people exist. Our lived experience matters. We will not be written out of history./END
I went by a male name at age 16 & would have leapt at the opportunity to change “gender” - along with testosterone & the rest.
Infertility? 🤷♀️
I’m about to spend Xmas with my wife, kids & grandkids.
I’m so lucky there were no laws then based on the idea that I “knew who I was”.
It’s clear from the angry responses to the proposed clarification of the Equality Act that those who’ve claimed they were not seeking to deny biological reality were not being truthful. Sex matters in many areas of life. Replacing sex with “gender” is replacing fact with fiction.
If you believe some children are born in the wrong body, and need drugs & later surgery as “health care”, you’ll find support from dozens of TQ+ organizations and virtually all political parties. If you think many LGB teens are being unnecessarily medicalized, go to
@AllianceLGB
.
Why is
@BBCRadio4
still saying on
@moneybox
“sex assigned at birth”? Are guidelines drafted - and obeyed - by people ignorant of pregnancy and childbirth? Sex is not assigned. It is observed and recorded. And “cis” is a jargon word most women reject.
#BBCBias
The CEO of what was once a gay rights organization is outraged at the notion of lesbians restricting lesbian support groups to lesbians - as in female homosexuals. Stonewall and all other TQ+ groups see homosexuality as discrimination - they are now explicitly homophobic.
To make it easier to exclude trans lesbians from lesbian support groups.
To make it easier to exclude trans women from women’s book clubs
To make it easier to exclude trans women from women only shortlists
Holyrood votes tomorrow on Gender Self-ID. Once again for those at the back:
Self-ID is not a minor administrative measure to help a vulnerable group.
It erases women as a sex class & removes protections from teens who mistake sexual orientation for gender identity.
#NoToSelfID
Finally people are connecting the dots:
@BBC
has been colluding with WPATH, Stonewall plus its dozens of satellite groups, and GIDS in promoting harm to mainly LGB youth.
This medical scandal is also a media scandal.
We won’t forget. We don’t forgive.
@sally_hines
News to me.. and my wife… and all my lesbian colleagues and friends! But it’s very revealing that anyone would suggest women are somehow being manipulated by men into asserting our rights. There’s a name for that…
TWAW was a legal fiction to help a tiny number of (mostly) men with severe gender dysphoria to live their lives in dignity. Later came an online false narrative, amplified by profit motive, youth rebellion, parents’ despair, & leaders failing every conceivable test of character.
This is the video that peaked
@afneil
. Please show it to politicians on the left - everywhere.
Show it to gay celebrities.
Show it to public officials and corporate leaders.
It’s time for Chloe’s message to get through.
My full opening statement from the congressional hearing.
My goal in going to DC was to bring compassion and clarity to a subject that has been previously missing those things on the national scale.
Sad to see so many people pushing “gender neutral” language and trying to dismantle all dividing lines between the sexes in the belief they’re doing something progressive. It’s quite the opposite. It is a reality denial movement - regressive, sexist, and intolerant of difference.
