Congratulations to Arif Ahmed on his appointment as the first Director for Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom at the @officestudents We are grateful for his contribution as a Commissioner, and wish him well when he leaves the EHRC Board to take up his new post in August.

We have advised the UK Government that a change to the Equality Act 2010 - so that ‘sex’ means biological sex - could bring clarity in a number of areas, but potential ambiguity in others. We have suggested that they carefully identify and consider the potential implications.

No matter how big or small, every employer is responsible for protecting its workforce and sexual harassment should not be tolerated.

Sport is fantastic in helping support inclusion, promoting understanding and respect, as well as bringing communities together. This is a really positive step forward in ensuring people from all backgrounds can access, participate equally and experience the joy of sport.

Tackling antisemitism isn’t only about policy and procedure, it must be enabled by a culture that truly reflects zero tolerance of harassment and discrimination of Jewish students. Meaningful action must be taken immediately to implement the recommendations of this investigation.

The human rights we enjoy today have been hard won. Our role is to make sure they remain protected today, and for future generations, so that governments and others fulfil their obligations to uphold rights, and we can all live freely and fairly in a rights-respecting society.

The law is clear; no one should be subjected to harassment or discrimination. As an employer and a public body, the London Fire Brigade must act immediately on the recommendations of this review, to protect its employees and the public from racism, discrimination and harassment.

We are delighted to be re-accredited as an ‘A-status’ National Human Rights Institution and welcome the report published by @Ganhri1 this week. Defending and promoting human rights is at the heart of everything we do.

Several hair discrimination cases have gone to court and we continue to hear of new cases. In schools, hair discrimination can have serious and long-lasting consequences for its young victims. Our new guidance says schools must permit certain hairstyles to comply with the law.

I am proud of the powerful example we continue to set as a National Human Rights Institution on the global stage. We will continue to work with all organisations in our shared goals to protect equality and human rights and reduce discrimination in England, Scotland and Wales.

This is among the first of the cases funded through our legal support scheme to conclude. By helping victims of discrimination get justice, we demonstrate our commitment to advancing race equality across Britain.
