Complexity's core recipe: nonlinearity + time. High-D space is optional. When modeling high dimensions are not preferred because the noise threshold is often too low, burying the signal. I would prefer hunting for the emergent, low-D manifold where the "meaningful surprise" of

Yeah, I am as excited as the next guy about creating an “AI scientist”, but I know all too well that for decades intelligence has not been the main bottleneck for creating better and more advanced scientific breakthroughs. We’ve been churning out more science PhDs than we knew

What I found amazing is that MaCE is comparable to "Liquid Lenia" -- something I've been cooking around. The differences are in the diffusion term, and that it's derived from @zzznah's Particle Lenia (n→∞). Convergeny evolution FTW! https://t.co/SNdUXv9kwN

I've reimplemented MaCE Lenia in JAX, just 3 lines change from the original Lenia algorithm. It contains the parameters that need to reproduce the butterfly 🦋

MaCE is an elegant way to have mass conservation in cellular automata. Just do softmax of a field (here Lenia's growth) and redistribute mass. Macroscopically, the authors proved that it's equivalent to advection-diffusion in fluid dynamics, so there's some actual physics here!

i keep thinking about this our cells have no awareness that they're part of a larger consciousness does this apply to us as well there's a larger consciousness that we're a part of but we as its individual cells only perceive ourselves and our immediate surroundings
