We have a winner for the Schmidhuber prize 2025 @schmidhubered
@amahury0 I donβt think you read or understand the papers. I guess they are hard as they are theory & experiment. Briefly they show how a full chemical system can be achieved.

@stenichele @gfrison @ALifeConf Yes: Fristonian worldmodeling across nested layers of integrated agents. At small scales models form via embodiment (eg cells-or molecules-persisting in combinatorial envs). Life modularly repurposes its agential substrate as inner models of collectives, informing their behavior

I guess I would live here, if I had exactly two or three neighbors! Sorry for the nerdy joke, I have just been at @ALifeConf #alife2025 in Kyoto π―π΅

It's cool that while regular AI people are building the world's most wattage demanding chatbots there's someone looking at really interesting questions I just love the Alife hopes/path to AI
All sessions are over @ALifeConf then we decided to find a definition of *life*. Problem solved! π LIFE: persistence of (1) replicating processes and (2) modelling across scales in dynamic environments By Clifford Bohm, @BeneHartl, Etienne Guichard & @stenichele

Thanks @MLStreetTalk for covering our ARC-NCA research and the #ALIFE2025 conference! Tim I'm so happy that we had a chance to meet earlier online and that I convinced you to come to @ALifeConf Keep up with the great work!
I was so excited when I saw that Neural Cellular Automata had been applied to the @arcprize - do you remember the famous self-repairing Gecko from @zzznah in 2020? I think ALIFE methods are an exciting path forward in AI research! This is @stenichele and Etienne Guichard at

Arthur Penty (@NTNU) searches for life in nanomagnets (I.e., in the magnetization state of the substrate π§²). Do we need a new category of artificial life in-materio? Or can we fit it in soft/hard/wet alife? @ALifeConf #ALIFE2025

Well done, the SONI session was great (including karaoke in the night)!

Also, I would have loved to hear Nils Barricelli's work mentioned. He is one of the founding fathers of #alife (together with Chris Langton) and the first to explore computational symbiogenesis with 1D CAs as the main *source* of evolution and life.
Criticism: in biological symbiogenesis the "things" that come together become one and stay one. The BF programs, once they undergo temporary "symbiogenesis" (aka collaborate and rewrite each other), they are put back in the soup. is this true symbiogenesis? #alife2025 @ALifeConf
