@amahury0 I don’t think you read or understand the papers. I guess they are hard as they are theory & experiment. Briefly they show how a full chemical system can be achieved.

At small scales models form via embodiment (eg cells-or molecules-persisting in combinatorial envs). Life modularly repurposes its agential substrate as inner models of collectives, informing their behavior

It's cool that while regular AI people are building the world's most wattage demanding chatbots there's someone looking at really interesting questions I just love the Alife hopes/path to AI

Also, I would have loved to hear Nils Barricelli's work mentioned. He is one of the founding fathers of #alife (together with Chris Langton) and the first to explore computational symbiogenesis with 1D CAs as the main *source* of evolution and life.
Criticism: in biological symbiogenesis the "things" that come together become one and stay one. The BF programs, once they undergo temporary "symbiogenesis" (aka collaborate and rewrite each other), they are put back in the soup. is this true symbiogenesis? #alife2025 @ALifeConf
