Does this absolutely destroy the logic for middle earners putting their pensions into anything other than high risk investments??? Curious ....
If you’re not going to have a pension more than >£300k this is probably the optimal strategy. Pension credit is ridiculously generous. The welfare system is riddled with perverse incentives.

Truth of the matter is that early programming languages like COBOL and FORTRAN are quite easy to understand. As if python isn't all vibe coding anyway. Well this function does this thing... According to the example i saw. We're all programming on like 10 layers of abstraction now
It's the 1950s. COBOL promises an English-like syntax that will allow non-specialists to program software systems, 10x productivity and not needing to understand the underlying system. It's the 1970s. SQL promises natural language queries that managers can write themselves,

HMRC's tax evader is another man's (my) freedom fighter. At this point I would strictly prefer my tax money go straight in the bin
The degree to which your quality of life depends on your willingness to make yourself as large a burden as possible is hard to overstate. If you work, you're robbed blind to pay for those who won't. You can't have the family life you'd like to because you need to pay for the

The whole point of wearing shorts as an adult is not giving a fuck what people think of your leg-wear choices. Very sad to think that some adult men do not enjoy the bliss of just wearing whatever feels comfy and appropriate. This isn't Bermuda, u can't wear shorts to the office
Men can only wear one type of shorts and that’s pressed bermudas and they should stop right above the knee. This is just a fact, not subject to debate

And those who cannot get judicial approval. They and their doctors will be emboldened to seek a murderer at one of the many dodgy Swiss 'clinics'

Once doctors kill, how can we expect them to ever learn from a mistake. To admit the mistake would destroy their minds. They will not be able to turn back. They will repeat mistakes over and over. The same for judges.
Unabashed, the hospital asked the judge to continue to withhold resuscitation from the baby. The judge was sanguine about his earlier decision: “A prediction [in this case, thay Baby NR would never improve] should not be disregarded simply because it may prove to be wrong.”

Depends on who we blame for the 2007 Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement act, Blair or Brown

The Analyst’s Maxim strikes again: The only 'interesting' discoveries you made was identifying an error in the analysis or messy input data.
@HarryDCrane It's a badly executed database merge on a voter ID that has had a lot of addresses, probably a homeless person

Man Vs Food Vs the failure of British law and order
Well - the entire crew of season two of #AdamRichmanEatsBritain has just been robbed. We were driving from Birmingham to London, stopped at a rest, stop in Barnet for exactly 4 1/2 minutes to use the restroom, and came back to our van completely cleaned out. All of the filming

It's not a "capital gains tax" it's a "capital gains and inflation tax" and it's absolutely mad to compare it's rate to that of income tax

Oh yipee a very expensive way to distort the labour market all while city centre housing to the economically inactive!!!
If you make the argument that a middle class person who rents privately or owns their home does not benefit from social housing then, I wonder, do you think they do not need to live in places where nurses, ambulance drivers, supermarket staff and other key workers can also live?

Don't worry guys most of the increase in healthcare spend that drives a chunk of this is due to rising wages and us wanting more healthcare because we are richer. But the economy isn't growing (in per capita terms) it's all going to be fine...
Remarkable graph on spending outstripping revenue from the new OBR report. Reality: taxes will need to rise significantly over the coming decades.

I don't know if @garyseconomics was a good trader, but I do know that he wore the sickest pair of bright yellow Onitsuka Tiger trainers during economic history lectures and every month for the last five years plus I've thought about buying a pair

Can the government please stop driving up rent prices. Some of us actually have to pay for rent!

The whole reason that cgt is lower than income tax is because gct is also a tax on inflation, and because about 1/2 the rise in the nominal value of your investments is just inflation. This is idiotic. Tax imputed rents and house price capital gains first!
If Labour goes ahead with rumoured plans to equalise capital gains tax with income tax, Britain will have the highest capital gains tax rate in Europe.

Can we please just adopt the Singaporean policy of putting the drug traffickers to death first? Outdoor smoking ban is like not even one of the first hundred Singaporean laws we need .
@MPIainDS It makes total sense health wise and for those who prefer to go for a meal in a pub garden without clouds of smoke - 87% of the population do not smoke. Singapore, Australia, New York have all banned outside smoking for years - and there is no issue - why are precious Brits any
