More of what we were told never happens has been found to be happening again. Unsurprising, given that the effective implied subsidy for these places is £20,000 a year, while the people handing out these winning lottery tickets are on £30,000.

Britain's economy is fake. Products are determined by regulation, goods are allocated by statutory entitlement, and prices are fudged by caps, subsidies and means testing. Nowhere shows this as obviously as the car business.
The car industry shows how the price mechanism is broken in Britain. We can hardly be regarded as a market economy anymore. My latest for the Telegraph. https://t.co/WT9OsUIv20

If this was the charitable interpretation of the speech, here is the bit that really grated for me. Blaming poor productivity only on post GFC spending restraint/austerity - when decisions over energy policy, planning, migration and financial regulation are far more compelling
I think two new bits of information in that Chancellor speech - first, the message that everyone will be asked to contribute to the effort opens the door to broad-based tax increases. Probably sensible given tax rate for those on average incomes is the lowest in 50 years. The

The issue with this is that a car is the most important consumer good people buy, it is used as signalling of success, and many people save for a long time to buy a vehicle, and that presumably, you want the economy for cars to work like that (?) If you can get a brand new BMW on
The BBC has run a motability puff piece. The article is wholly bias and they dont even see it. They dont ask why 40% of new car sales are via motability in NI. They dont investigate, why people are suspicious of fraud, and the widespread use of cars for taxi firms. This is
