Wonderful news from France! The National Assembly has voted to advance a billionaire's tax—116 in favor, 39 against. The tax enjoys huge public support, with 75% of the French backing it. Similar levels of support are seen in polls across other countries, including the U.S.

This is a classic example of misleading economics language. "We" did not just "get poorer". The GOVERNMENT got poorer because it transferred money to WEALTHY INDIVIDUALS, who still have the money. It is only the DISTRIBUTION that has changed.

@jimthegiant One thing about this stat - the top 1% of tax payers is different to the top 1% of earners and the top 1% richest people. Our tax system taxes high earning workers much more than super wealthy families (who are much richer).
