Thank you to the thousands of CalR users for all the positive feedback. We are happy that your in vivo energy balance analyses just got faster and easier. We secretly made this tool to solve our own problems. Looks like it helped others too.

Say good morning to our new medicine laureate 🎉 Gary Ruvkun was woken up in the early hours to the news he had been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Stay tuned for our interview with him, coming soon.

This is Canadian chic. Too cool for me. But Lawrence also knows how to rock the whole-body tyvek suit and hair bonnet--Boston style.
@Bankslab is working up an idea to standardise mouse calorimetry. Maybe what we all wear in the respirometry lab should be part of that.

How ridiculous that legacy metabolic phenotyping companies still normalize EE data by body mass! This approach has been discredited for many years & has polluted the biomedical literature for decades. Normalizing EE by body mass raised to the 0.75 power is even more absurd; an

Tuna has an incredible capacity for mitochondrial OXPHOS in muscle. How do we study it? This is our way -- thanks to Luke Mead and Ray. Just to add, the samples are incredibly tasty.

His humor, scientific insights, and mentorship will be sorely missed. His support altered the trajectory of my career and that of many others. He was just so good. My thoughts go out to his family and everyone close to Dave.
Science has lost a giant of physiology and metabolism. Vandy has lost a true leader. I have lost a mentor, colleague, and dear friend. Those of us lucky to have known him will remember his dedication and his (odd) humor. Rest now @DHWasserman1 We will miss you.

I have not found a better or more intuitive resource than Rafa's course (which i took years ago) or his books (which i still use for reference). If you're thinking that you have data too big or complex to wrangle and plot using Excel and Prism, then check this out.
📣A second edition of our Introduction to #DataScience is on its way, now split into two books. After teaching the course this semester, we've made significant improvements. Current drafts are online: 📘Intro: https://t.co/8DaGbDP4nq 📙Advanced: https://t.co/boveOOXb5Q

A reminder of not taking things for granted. Fasting prior to glucose-tolerance test (GTT) increases variability @Bankslab @MolMetab
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
Our results suggest fasting mice before glucose tolerance testing, and perhaps other experiments, can have the opposite of the intended effect where fasting can increase, rather than decrease,...
