Yes+No. The average PhD may work for the average MBA. However, at an Elite level this is not always the case, most start their own companies or lead their own research labs. Eg. Jim Simons, Demis Hassabis, FeiFei Li. 6/8 "Founders of Silicon Valley" had PhDs including Bob Noyce.
