This speech is full of half-truths, distortions, misleading claims and outright lies. Basically living up to every meme, trope and unfair stereotype, of Americans being ignorant morons. I'll go through each of the claims he made in this segment and what the actual facts are. /1

Tassie's most overlooked road rule. If you're turning at an intersection while driving or riding, you must give way to pedestrians crossing the road. From the Road Safety Advisory Council ( https://t.co/rlUQQDOVPJ)

It's not really about whether you personally like, want or need to drive. It’s about not being DEPENDENT on driving all the time, for everything you do. And it’s about the fact that in cities, if everyone has to move by car, no one moves much at all. Pic via @BrooklynSpoke

Hello @EricAbetzMP Curious to know if the real time bus information is being rolled out this month as promised? Knowing that my @metro_tasmania bus was delayed would have been very helpful this morning! #politas

The government boasts that emissions are now 28.2% below 2005 levels. Sounds great, except that is only when you include the very dodgy "emissions" from land clearing and land use (there was massive land clearing in 2005). The fall of "actual emissions" is a mere 1.8%.

Same comments apply to this. No wonder our state has numeracy issues when a sample so small that it doesn't even provide statistical confidence that opposition exceeds support is being mislabelled as a "clear message". Make it stop! #politas https://t.co/EAKGDtMqfY

EMRS Collins St bike lane commissioned Q, if this is correct that n=only 92 then the tiny sample size and the fact that there were some prior contentious questions about councils renders this absolutely useless. #politas https://t.co/yO3DmjW01H

Electric cars won’t save us: “People who biked on a daily basis had 84% lower carbon emissions from all their daily travel than those who didn’t. […] emissions from biking can be more than 30 times lower than driving a gas car, and 10 times lower than driving an electric car.”

🥱 why pick on Hobart when concerns expressed are across local government? Perhaps check out the debate from across the river, an even bigger vote in Clarence against these poorly drafted DAP laws #politas Mayor’s comments starts @ 2hrs 9mins https://t.co/5F9LGG3AJp

The decision by the Hobart City Council, and the spread of misinformation seen in recent days, is exactly why we need Development Assessment Panels. Once again, no one is surprised the anti-everything brigade are up in arms.

The knowledge economy is key to the future prosperity of cities & Hobart is no exception. I’d like to see Hobart grow its tertiary & research sector significantly in next 20 years. There’s room for new & improved educational & research facilities in both the CBD & Sandy Bay
