Social security should provide stability & support at times of need, but the brutality of the two-child limit is plain to see in what these women & children have been through. Their experience should focus minds on the need to abolish the policy entirely.

Ending child poverty should be the very mission of the Labour Party. Scrapping the two-child benefit cap will help lift thousands of children out of poverty and help change their lives. The Labour Party should be leading on this.

After omitting to swear allegiance to King Charles' “heirs and successors” last week, I've had to take the oath again in order to sit in the House of Commons. The majority of the public are committed to democracy, and so I hope one day MPs can swear an oath based on those values.

42% of children in my constituency live in poverty & 4 million nationally. In its Manifesto Labour committed to tackle child poverty but not to scrap 2 child limit. If elected I will work to ensure that scrapping this cap is in Labour’s first budget with amendments if necessary.

If you cap benefits and allow rents to rise, the only possible outcome is soaring homelessness Bit from me in The Guardian on the failed legacy of capping LHA https://t.co/yxJRSSUPPv

New City Hall analysis has found no-fault evictions in London increased by 52% in the last year. The government’s failure to pass the ban on no-fault eviction they promised back in 2019 before the dissoluton of Parliament is an utter betrayal of tenants.

A Conservative bill to ban no fault evictions did not make it into law before Parliament was dissolved.

Thank you @faizashaheen for consistently speaking up about the killing of children in Gaza. We need more people in parliament with the courage to do that.

Palestinian children should wake up feeling excited to go to school and play with their friends. Instead, for those murdered in Rafah, their last moments on this earth were filled with unimaginable fear as bombs rained down on their tents. What a monstrous failure of humanity.

🏠 When we build social homes, we’re building better lives. We’re building stability. A brighter future. But right now, we don’t have nearly enough of them. We need to build good social homes again so a new generation can be proud to say: we are #MadeInSocialHousing.

Truly shocking. Clearly, he has no idea about PIP, how it's awarded, or how you qualify.
The work & pensions minister says the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is "thousands of pounds a month" If you qualify for the higher weekly rate & get the mobility part you get £184.30 per week, which works out at £798.63/month. So you don't get thousands of pounds a month

People on benefits didn't crash the economy. The Tories did. It’s not “sick note culture” that stops people from working. It’s a mental health crisis and the state of the NHS, which the Tories left to crumble. Stop punishing disabled people for your own failures, @RishiSunak.

In 1945, a Labour government inherited an economy ravaged by WW2. They built the NHS & the welfare state. Crises are not an excuse for inaction. They are an opportunity for transformation. Today, that means offering an alternative to inequality, climate chaos and endless war.

Diane Abbott was the public victim of racist and misogynistic abuse, possibly even a hate crime. Today she had to sit in her workplace silently watching mostly white men discuss her as if she was invisible because another white man denied her the right to a question. Abhorrent.

A potential ground invasion by the Israeli Govt into Rafah, where 1.4m displaced Palestinians are sheltering, threatens the safety of civilians. Further bloodshed must be stopped. The UK Govt should demand an immediate ceasefire and suspend arms sales to Israel.
