Did a C-section last night and I usually ask anesthesia to drop the drapes so I can show mom the baby while we are doing delayed cord clamping. The mom screamed, “THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE”. And that’s why I love my job #obgyn #residentphysician

I mailed a picture of me delivering twins to the OBGYN who delivered me 26 years ago and said hey, a baby you delivered is now delivering babies! He googled me, called my residency program coordinator, and then we talked on the phone as colleagues for almost 40 min. #obgyntwitter

Delivered my 400th baby of residency yesterday! Two years ago when I was a med student, I delivered a baby here hands over hands w/the attending. Last night, I delivered this peanut with a student, hands over hands. What a wild and wonderful ride it has been. #obgynresidentlife

One time my attending couldn’t find the cesarean section scar that I had done the incision closure for and I’d never been more honored in my life. Love, your friendly OBGYN resident who likes pretending she’s a plastic surgeon sometimes

Casually broke in our new scrub tech with an unplanned c-hyst. Obstetrics is crazy town sometimes. People go from being low risk and routine to all of a sudden emergent. It truly makes me wonder why people would ever want to have a baby at home

Most days I love being an OBGYN because surgery + babies, but when you're out to lunch and the waitress asks you if you're new to the area and my mom goes "YES SHE'S A NEW GYNECOLOGIST CALL HER IF YOU NEED A PAP SMEAR" it's a wee bit mortifying 🤪😬

Want to know why residents are fatigued? It’s not because of the patient care. It’s because of the constant interruption. I got 762 notifications on tiger connect on my night shift last night. How am I supposed to focus if I keep getting non-urgent questions?

Sometimes after my 6th delivery and 4th admission of the night I think to myself, why did I pick OBGYN? But then other days when a patient’s entire family is waiting outside for you to hold the baby up to the window like the lion king bc they can’t come in I’m like...worth it.

Here's another reason OBGYN is the best: In one night, I got to take care of patients in our L&D triage (a mini ER), went to the OR for a CS (aka a laparotomy w/ a prize at the end), delivered 4 babies, and counseled my clinic patients over the phone when their labs resulted.

“I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability”. - Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Residency is one of the hardest but most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Officially an OBGYN! Next stop, fellowship!

I'm almost done with intern year and I've made it through with only 2 more gray hairs to add to my collection, so I would say this year has been a wild success #obgynresidency

No better way to celebrate your birthday by bringing new lives into the world. April 28th is a great birthday— hope our full L&D board thinks so too! Many thanks to our awesome resident team for this fun surprise at 5:30 AM!

Cheers to another month down of being the daytime L&D intern. Since starting, 154 vaginal deliveries, 19 cesarean sections, and a lifetime to keep learning! 🥂next up, night float! #obgynresidency

In my experience most resident physicians go by their first names with OR staff, so I’m used to being Kathleen the resident in the OR. One scrub tech insists on calling me Dr. Kathleen (she says we’ve earned the dr!) and I think it’s kind of the sweetest thing ever #residentlife

Cleaning out my desk: Five years ago, I was disappointed to receive this letter from a med school I had fallen in love with during my interview day. I put down a deposit at a different school. I was accepted shortly after, and later graduated as most outstanding med student.

@nicunurselifee @AmyLaskyMD I very purposefully use the words “spontaneous labor” and “vaginal vs. cesarean delivery” for these reasons! Same reason why I say “arrest of dilation/descent” instead of “failure to progress” or “failed IOL”. Words matter.

@KBrookeGolisch 👏🏼yes👏🏼. And thank you for your support as a general surgeon-love an OBGYN who was once told by a gen surg intern “you guys aren’t real surgeons”.

You'd think we're well on our way to assuming women are doctors since 1/2 my med school was female, but yesterday at the REI clinic one of the staff asked me if I was a NP or PA student. In a totally nice, non-malicious way. When I said I'm a resident doc, she said "oh wow!"
