Long ago when this website was still good, someone posted an algorithm explaining how they decide whether to take on new academic work. The idea stuck with me, and now that I’m being approached with more opportunities I made this to help organize my decisions. Thoughts?

One of my concerns when I transitioned out of the large academic medical center where I trained & into community-based medicine was that I would lose out on working w/ trainees who are interested in healthcare for the homeless & SUD. Let’s just say, it hasn’t been an issue 😅.

The martyrdom going on in the DBD camp is wild. Can I just call up the state and be like, “Hello? Public records department? I’d like to submit a secret record request.” If that’s what they thought was going to happen, it doesn’t make them martyrs. It makes them misinformed.

If I’m reading this wrong or it’s erroneous info, someone please correct me. Legal minds of Denver please weigh in.

So did the 3 contributors named in the DP article have any reasonable expectation of privacy when they submitted a ***public records request*** to the City?. If not, then, by their own logic, isn’t the DP article content permissible and not “doxxing”?.

@dobetterdnvr claims that it’s permissible to post identifying videos of people to the internet without their consent because there is no reasonable expectation of privacy in public spaces. Ok then.

I have a real legal question re: the current discourse in Denver about doxxing in the wake of @denverpost and @ShellyBradbury’s recent article. 1/x.

Shout out to the older docs (usually male, often white) who are experts in their field and could easily give the talk on the thing, but opt to pass the opportunity on to early career docs (often female, often non-white) instead. Sponsorship matters.

Interesting dialogue happening in Denver right now between the “I don’t think anonymously filming vulnerable people without their consent is a legitimate journalistic strategy” crowd and the “lol shut up you stupid commie” crowd.

Eh. I don’t know about that.

l’ll keep that in mind if I ever see you out there during the 10 hours/week I spend in the encampments every week for the last 208 weeks. But you know what? I still wouldn’t post a video of you crapping your pants on the internet. Because even you deserve more dignity than that.

Because there are a million and one ways to be critical of and participate in local government without harming vulnerable people, and yet they chose none of those ways.

(I assume. Because frankly one of these things seems a lot more legal to me than the other.).

Props for publishing this even after the @dobetterdnvr crowd tried to preemptively squash the story with claims of “doxxing.” If posting non-consensual videos of vulnerable people on the internet is legal, so too is the publishing of public records requests.
