My family has been affected by the devastating impact of asbestos - it meant a lot to me to be part of this.

John Flanagan, of @MerseysideAVS, presented to the hearing on the work of asbestos victims’ support groups, and the personal stories of some of those who lost their lives to mesothelioma following exposure to Cape asbestos products.

A special thanks to all those who provided evidence and powerful witness testimonies. These will inform a report which the @APPG_OSH will shortly be publishing, including our recommendations to government.

Yesterday I chaired a public hearing into the legacy of Cape — once one of the world’s largest asbestos manufacturers, now owned by @Altrad_Services. Thank you to my fellow panel members @cajardineMP, @JohnGlenUK, @FrancesOGrady, Lord Henry KC and Professor Baroness Finlay.

With seven evidence sessions, the panel heard witness testimonies from oncologists, solicitors, corporate liability experts, victim advocates, unions, and a former Director of Cape. The panel will write a summary report which will shortly be made publicly available.

Yesterday this APPG held a public hearing into the legacy of Cape. Cape was at one time one of the world’s largest asbestos manufacturers. It is now owned by Altrad. The hearing panel was made up of MPs and peers from across the Parliament benches.

Our Chair and Vice Chair, Ian Lavery MP and Lord John Hendy KC, have been catching up ahead of a busy week ahead for the APPG. On Monday, Parliament will host public hearing into the legacy of asbestos manufacturer, Cape (now owned by Altrad).

We were delighted to this week host pilots from three major airline carriers. Representatives of @BALPApilots spoke of concerns relating to OSH and welfare regulations and enforcement. Thanks to the members of the Commons & Lords who joined the meeting.
