This will slightly increase the prison population but free up capacity in the reception prisons and create capacity where it is needed the most. End What do you think? will this ease things? Let us know your thoughts 👇

this will not impact the length of a prisoner’s sentence or their maximum sentence for certain offences but will reduce the court case backlog and reduce the remand prisoner population. It will also free up 2000 sitting days

A quick update from LC @ShabanaMahmood's statement today on sitting days and prisons: - Noted that the Government was forced to allow the release of certain prisoners after serving 40% of their sentence due to the crisis, and would try to avoid having to repeat this. 🧵

@FightBach @LALYawards Thank you @FightBach for leading tributes to Simon at yesterday's parliamentary meeting to reconstitute the @APPGJustice, a cause for which Simon cared so deeply and did so much over the years. An immeasurable loss to the #LegalAid and #Access2Justice community.

We are saddened by the horrific and tragic events in Southport last week and our deepest sympathies to those families affected. We also condemn, in the strongest terms, the racist, anti-migrant, Islamophobic, and far-right violence we are currently witnessing.

A new Lord Chancellor was sworn in yesterday in an historic occasion. At the ceremony the new AG said: "Governments should be judged by their deeds not by their rhetoric..." So, legal X/Twitter, this begs the question: what deeds need to be done to ensure justice and the RoL? 1/3
