My essay “Moving Portland” is now available on my Medium! This essay traces the evolution of Portland’s transit network while analyzing the socioeconomic forces that have motivated transit development in the region. Read it at the link below 👇
Sacha came all the way from Portland for this event! Check her Portland Streetcar hat.
She already got her legacy # plate too. We’re selling them at the Railgoods popup shop and we’ll be raffling some off!
I hope the people in the replies of this article demonstrating a lack of compassion for drug users never find themselves in a life-threatening situation surrounded by people who think like they do. We owe it to our community to care for each other, no matter who’s suffering.
A woman who tried to save a man's life says she hopes more people, including passengers and TriMet staff, will carry Narcan in the future, as it could be the difference between life and death.
Stoking anti-transit sentiment while deflecting from someone having valid policy criticisms is counterproductive to your responsibilities as a city commissioner. Making a statement like this supports rhetoric harmful to transit and reflects negatively on Portland.
CAHSR is cooked if Alstom wins the contract.
Siemens already has a HSR platform for the American market, they’ve built a lot of LRT and DMU rolling stock across the US, and have manufacturing plants *in* California.
We just released our shortlist of qualified potential suppliers for California High-Speed Rail’s electrified trains!
The shortlist includes two teams:
@AlstomUSA
@SiemensUSA
We look forward to moving this process forward to get high-speed trains here in California.
All of the people who love reminiscing about how “Portland was amazing 20 years ago” are pining after a time when
- Active transit infra was being built aggressively
- More artists & creatives could live here w/ out aux income
- There was less suburbanization
Fare inspectors are on my train and they checked my fare and when they saw I paid the full $2.80 adult fare the supervisor fell to his knees and cried and everyone started clapping

MAX map depicting the operation pattern for Red Line trains at Gateway/Gateway North! I really like how they chose to depict the one-way operation of the fish hook.
I don’t want to contribute to someone getting dogpiled for a disagreeable take, but I do think the R211 open gangway discourse speaks to the greater urbanist community’s tendency to complain about everything.
A few times each week my partner and I do a thing we call “transgender transit hour” where we just take transit into a random part of Portland and then figure out how to get back to our apartment
@transitsupply
For context, I was crossing in a marked sidewalk, at a signalized intersection, with a right-of-way walk sign.
It’s really cool how so many of you assume it’s my fault for almost getting hit. If you’re a driver it’s your responsibility to avoid pedestrians
No wonder PBOT has a budget shortfall, they’re obsessed with tearing out infrastructure they built two years ago. It’s an unbelievable waste of taxpayer dollars and absolutely shreds any credibility Mapps or Williams had. Legitimately embarrassing and shameful behavior.

but have reason to believe removal could start tomorrow (Weds, 11/1).

Today, we opened our eighth Central Valley structure to be completed in 2023!
The Davis Avenue overcrossing is 416 feet long and 32 feet wide. Located between Fowler Avenue and State Route 43, the structure will take traffic over future high-speed rail lines.

I am very critical of Boeing’s lack of safety oversight, but I can’t help but wonder how many of these stories reporting on smaller equipment failures are solely motivated by the current attention on Boeing.

Line 72 is “the most popular bus line in Oregon” yet transit priority lanes are nowhere to be found in mock-ups for the 82nd Ave project. Failure to prioritize transit along this corridor will haunt us for generations. It’s still possible to add them!
Safety improvements are focused on some major community destinations in the corridor, including McDaniel High School, the Jade District and Eastport Plaza Shopping Center. It will improve access to

I just finished writing a history paper on the formation of transit in Portland so I thought I would condense it into a thread. So I present:
The Fist 100 Years of Portland Public Transit, a 🧵
Say what you will about the route and map, but I love when studios put public transit into their games that you can actually ride and interact with! Like hacking the subway cars in Watch Dogs was one of my favorite gameplay mechanics.
@alanthefisher
The fact that so much energy is dedicated to open gangway discourse is upsetting. We could be advocating for better transit, housing, literally anything other than ONE inconsequential design detail that doesn’t meaningfully improve day-to-day operations.

it’s fun watching NYC exceptionalists lose their minds bc the “greatest city in the world” lost in a Twitter poll to an underrated midwestern city
First and last time trying Burgerville today, experience was unfathomably mid. What is it with all these PNW-specific brands that have some cult following/allure to them but in reality they just suck?
“The story behind this painting is so sad 😢 anyways social commentary about the AIDS epidemic aside, let me defile this artwork while disrespecting its creator and message”
Punitive enforcement should not be TriMet’s approach to curb drug usage. Connecting at-risk individuals with resources will always be more effective and less costly. Activating Community Outreach and Safety Response staff to engage riders would contribute to a safer environment.
Let’s make TriMet a drug-free zone.
We believe all Portland-area residents deserve a safe, welcoming and reliable transit system – one where they should not have to fear encountering illegal drug use.
Senate Bill 1553-1 would make illegal drug use on transit a Class A…
As much as I love visiting family in California, staying here has really juxtaposed the isolation of the suburbs with the convenience of living so close to transit back home. It’s solidified my desire to never go back to suburban living.
Despite Portland's vast transit network, there's a distinct lack of overnight service. So what would an ideal Owl network look like for Portland? I've crayoned a proposed network which connects many communities with 24/7 bus and light rail service 🧵
First time I’ve seen a special message on one of the streetcar readerboards! There was an issue with the crew door mechanism and it kept throwing an error code preventing the operator from using the throttle.
Here's my redesign of the

map! I tried to retain similar colors to the original map while adding accessibility features, transfer information, and service patterns. Let me know what you think!
I’ve noticed my enjoyment of social media has very rapidly declined in recent months. Pretty much every platform has lost its appeal and feels more like a chore to use than something I enjoy. Has this been the case for anyone else?
Twitter is much more enjoyable when you just block people who litter your replies with uninformed and bad faith arguments. You people are all miserable and not worth my time.
Currently obsessed with the inter-urban “forest tram” in Gotha, Germany. Look at how cute it is!
These photos are from TRAMAGIC’s beautiful video on the system. I would highly recommend you go check out their work on Youtube and Instagram.
Bay Area Transit Circumnavigation 🧵
today i’m circumnavigating the bay completely on public transportation, using a few different modes, including my first time riding
