Per this reporting, after Gaetz blew up the solution was to have Pam Bondi play the AG on TV while Stephen Miller actually ran the department.

In 1945, six women pulled off a computing miracle. They programmed the world’s first computer—with no manuals, no training. Then, a SINGLE assumption erased them from tech history for decades. The story of how ONE photo nearly deleted computing’s female founders: 🧵

It's been an expensive week of economic chaos. Stocks are down nearly 5%, or over $2 trillion. In personal terms, the value of U.S. S&P 500 corporations is down about -$6,000 per American.

I created a new AI seminar class, and I'm highlighting a few readings from it each week. Week 2 features some big-picture issues discussed in great papers, including: The Scored Society by @daniellecitron and @FrankPasquale https://t.co/hDAI1Z8pei and...

The just-filed complaint challenging Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship. Filed in the D.N.H. by the national ACLU, ACLU-NH, ACLU-MA, ACLU-ME, NAACP LDF, State Democracy Defenders Fund, and the Asian Law Caucus. https://t.co/n4WIPgSfXx

Some media characterizing Trump's order to end birthright citizenship as being about children born to undocumented immigrants. That understates how extreme this EO is. It also denies citizenship to kids born of immigrants here *legally* (on H1Bs, student visas, etc)

PS-would be great if @APS_Commission @PublicServiceAU @AlboMP stepped up on this. While the problem is certainly impacting the broader community and issues beyond the Australian Public Service, that long time public servants are being denied access to entitlements is a disgrace

I would love to know if there are organizations or individuals out there that are handling these issues on a larger basis. There has to be more that can be done for people who are disabled from long covid to access their benefits and entitlements (17/18)

This cannot be the only case. There must be numerous instances of individuals attempting to access workplace entitlements, government benefits, retirement funds etc that are being rejected on the basis that "long covid isn't real" or "long covid is psychosomatic" (16/18)

This client cannot afford to continue with this case to litigate and has been forced out of the workplace. They cannot access their entitlements because of the archaic rules leaving HR as the gatekeepers of the government defined benefit scheme (15/18)

Its worth noting that this client attempted to work part time and access part time invalidity benefits, but was told by this government department that there is no place for someone working less than 28 hours at their level of seniority and refused to submit the paperwork (14/18)

Against this are multiple specialist reports that state the client cannot return to work. There is legal gray area here where 4 treating physicians say the individual cannot work, but the independent examiners say they can work. The workplace says they must return to work (13/18)

At this point, the client has not been been able to work for 2.5 years and as a result of these "independent medical examiner" reports that all essentially state that long covid is not real, the client is unable to access their disability benefits (12/18)

The immunologist report says that any impediments on an individual's daily life from #LongCovid after one year are "self-limiting" and that there is evidence that long covid is really just depression in disguise (11/18)

At this point the client hired a lawyer to push for an evaluation by a physician who has a speciality in #LongCovid. Turns out that there is only one person on the panel of specialists the HR department uses that claims a long covid speciality, an immunologist (10/18)

Predictably, this psychiatrist stated in his report that #LongCovid is not real, it is psychosomatic and made up by people who don't really want to work. He also said that to not go to work was to let his team down and was evidence of narcissism (9/18)

The workplace said, "see, you have a high IQ, you are not sick." When it was highlighted that a neuropsych is not medically trained, HR sent the client to a psychiatrist who specializes in psychosomatic disorders (8/18)
