Liked @gelliottmorris with @paulkrugman on the election, but want to add that I take a free bus in Maryland all the time and love it, think the Virginia burbs would too.

The Biden administration privately acknowledged a serious problem (war crimes), did nothing, then lied about it in public and scolded people who cared about it.
NEW: Inside the Biden administration debates in late 2024 that could have changed the course of the Gaza war -top intel official sought to cut support for Israel but Brett McGurk pushed back -"very likely" US liability -Blinken spoke of "ethnic cleansing" https://t.co/LUxABZWNda

I had a mild fondness for Sherrill for saving NJ from Josh Gottheimer, but this speech could have been written by Lina Khan, for MTG 2.0 Dems have another 2007 style opportunity to revive New Deal liberalism, it is the only conceivable path to rebuilding institutions pulverized
Mikie Sherrill: I am fighting for you. I'm fighting to get your costs down. I'm not doing a 10 year study. I'm not writing a strongly worded letter. I'm declaring a state of emergency to drive your costs down. I'm increasing that first time home buyers program so you can get your

Scorcese documentary reminds me that while nobody does more with a big budget than Scorcese … he’s also better with a small budget.

Extraordinary, tyrannical call to impeach judges who rule against Trump. Truly unAmerican.
At #FedSoc, just-departed Bondi chief of staff and acting DOJ No. 3 Chad Mizelle urges Congress to step up campaign to impeach federal judges who've blocked Trump policies. Mizelle also rejects Roberts' stance that rulings can't be grounds for impeachment. https://t.co/GazkDqPXZR

Prior to 2016 the anti-establishment left was focused very heavily on economic issues. Bank bailouts, foreclosures, austerity, etc. The flip to identity was leadership-approved, and post-Floyd, Dem leadership decided they didn't like it anymore.

Party leadership made very clear from 2015 - 2020 that identity claims were more acceptable than economic claims, (too much economic emphasis implied criticism of Obama, and anti-establishment Sanders owned the class critique). And so that's where a lot of left energy went.

The centrist narrative is that the left over-woked everyone and pressured Democrats to move too far to the left. Some of that is true, but the political division between identity and class was driven by the Clinton campaign trying to use identity as a sword against Sanders.

“If we broke up the banks tomorrow, would that end racism?” — Hillary Clinton
Voter resentment of Dems leftward turn was largely abt perceived focus on cultural issues. So to blanketly apply that to Sanders/Mamdani ignores the class forward nature of their message. The DSA “left” didn’t drive the Dems embrace identity politics wokeness etc. It was really

Respect to @JakeLahut
Jake Lahut, a Wired reporter who from the Nancy Mace airport story last week, was among those fired. During the incident, CN's HR chief asked staff not to congregate outside his office. Lahut asked "what's your definition of congregating?" and was let go later that day.

Republicans are saying over and over again as loudly as possible that they intend to strike a budget deal and immediately ignore it.
Scoop: House language barring GAO from suing the administration over impoundment without Congressional approval is a sticking point in Legislative Branch talks, as lawmakers work to finish 3 bill package to attach to new CR. More:

I think this illustrates one way the politics of abundance are trickier than its proponents recognize. Abundance housing stuff is generally good, but unpopular. The AI data centers are just unpopular, with a citizens vs. oligarchs power dynamic reviled by both left and right.

This understanding of abundance takes a great goal — more clean energy — and then flips it into an apologia for AI — leave data centers alone.
While the water scare has always been 100% fake the energy usage from data centers is real. But the correct solution is to build a shitload of new energy, not to make it illegal to build data centers. This is the point of abundance. We can choose to have nice things!

Voters rewarded fighters last night. Dems can keep fighting and keep winning, or they can lose. Trump knows he’s in no man’s land on the shutdown, and Dems have no reason to do him any favors.

Pete is having a senior moment here on the New York race, but I thought Sherrill was great when she went after landlords and pledged to freeze utility rates.
New Jersey and Virginia have chosen well by electing @MikieSherrill and @SpanbergerForVA as their next governors! They are proven leaders who won by focusing on what matters most - how politics and policy can make everyday life better and more affordable.
