Editorial Board @dissentmag. Think I started trend of labeling modern US Right as “revanchist.” Charming in person, but we’re not there. Also NBA/Warriors.

Funny thing with Mamdani—he didn’t have to even “pretend dress up” to wear a suit and thus flatter Trump. Wearing a suit is what he does as a mayoral candidate and soon to be mayor. Trump likes suits.
Given how much Zohran Mamdani was able to charm Trump, you have to wonder how much Zelensky blew it in that meeting earlier in the year. It doesn't seem all that hard to at least get Trump chummy with you for the day. He probably screwed up not wearing a suit.

It was probably most of all about, “The most electorally successful socialist in US history, who is also a sublimely gifted politician, doesn’t want us to do this as he begins his term. So let’s give him some forbearance.”
I can't get a good sense of how much the NYC DSA non-endorsement was about limited resources and how much was "don't really trust that tiktok dude*

Every member of Congress should be calling for the release of this hostage.
Israel has held 16-year-old American, Mohammed Ibrahim, without trial, for 9 months. He has been denied contact with family & his health is deteriorating. He says he falsely confessed to throwing a rock after being beaten. America needs to secure his release NOW.

The basic thing about health insurance as a right that reactionaries can’t grasp is this: the healthy and/or young are **supposed** to subsidize the sick and/or old. Why? Our health and youth are contingent and temporary. We are in this together. Nobody gets out alive.
The latest GOP proposals to convert #ACA subsidies into direct payments to individuals raise the same political challenge as their 2017 ACA repeal bills: the biggest losers would be older/sicker adults at the core of their electoral coalition. My take.

Highly recommend reading this.

There is no ceasefire. There is just Israel killing more Palestinians every day at a slightly reduced rate. Trump is now occupied with other things. He’s no longer paying attention—he’s declared the war is over. So Netanyahu is unleashed again.
BREAKING: At least 24 people are dead and 54 wounded after Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, testing the ceasefire that began in October, officials say.

She’s a broken clock/gets time right 2x per day reactionary crackpot/anti-Semite (attacking Jews qua Jews—“Jewish space lasers/“Christ killer protections” makes you an anti-Semite). But staying on a job you’re quitting until you’re pension eligible is just typical/rational.

What a perverse misreading. Mamdani—famous for his ubiquitous smile—was all business while Trump was grinning like a kid standing next to Steph Curry. Mamdani couldn’t have played his cards better.
For the very first time, Mamdani looked weak The Trump-Mamdani Buddy Movie? It’s Getting Mixed Reviews. https://t.co/42Rzq5U8SD via @NYTimes

"when I'm trying to make arguments in favor for Israel … I'm talking through a wall of dead children." I dunno, if this is the case, maybe you should really reconsider your job?
Sarah Hurwitz tells Z3 Conference that Jewish schools should ban smartphones to keep youths from seeing the carnage in Gaza: "I'm sorry if this is a graphic thing to say, but … when I'm trying to make arguments in favor for Israel … I'm talking through a wall of dead children."

him. Trump loves charisma, he loves media power, and Mamdani has all of that. Duh. The “Mamdani is Mao” thing isn’t gonna work. It’s pathetic and also deeply deeply stupid.

Goofy misread. Mamdani—who has just won two legal, fair elections—isn’t an authoritarian. (This is Dan at his most tendentious and insulting to his readers.) No—he’s a star! And a winner! And he flattered Trump by talking about real estate, ie, housing, with .
Basically, Trump greeted Mamdani the same way he has previously greeted Xi, Putin, Kim Jong-Un, & MBS. And for many of the same reasons. https://t.co/PFTJRy8yCg

Almost but not quite. Mamdani is also adept at being angry and militant and almost as contemptuous as Trump to adversaries—ask Cuomo. He’s a gifted politician, a prodigy in his line of work, and has as many affects and modulations as a PGA golfer has clubs in his bag.
One funny thing about Mamdani is he demonstrates how defective Bill de Blasio’s politics was. Being pleasant and charming can get you a lot farther with the same ideas.

“That’s OK. You could just say yes….” “Ok, alright.” This is the greatest bit in American history. If Mamdani can schedule a follow-up meeting with Trump next month about I/P, he has a chance to do the funniest thing ever.
Reporter asks Mamdani whether he still thinks Trump is a fascist. Mamdani: “I’ve spoke about —” Trump: “That’s OK. You could just say yes.” Mamdani: “Ok, alright.” Trump: “It’s easier — It’s easier than explaining it. I don’t mind.”

Cognitive smarts of people like Summers who loved words and numbers when they were kids—and thus absorbed themselves in books—is a lot different than having emotional IQ. Summers is a guy who only puts himself in other people’s shoes when he wants to steal their shoes.
